I have finally started training Scout in tracking and I read that before you can take the test you have to be approved by a judge. There isn't really anyone here that I know of that does tracking with there dog so I don't know how to go about this or if it would even be worth a judges time to come here if I am the only one. Anyone taken the tracking tests or know how this works?

We have this problem in our area too. I've talked to some Weim owners about having a judge come up from the San Diego area to qualify some dogs, but it's hard getting enough and also having the appopriate space to do it. Also the people I have been talking to that are interested all (including myself) have other "primary" interests with our dogs so it tends to get pushed to the back burner all the time, I have to admit... I wonder if there is a tracking forum that you can join to find some people in your area?

Thanks, Anne. I will see if I can find a forum or group. I also thought that I might try and network at my next agility trial down in Salt Lake City and see if any of their clubs are active in tracking.

I've been trying to get info on the tracking and agility stuff here in SLC for many months now. Those guys never seem to want to call me back or have a working email.

Who are you talking with down here? And, how can I find them?

I've been trying to get the skinny on tracking and agility for Rosko for some time (he's 8.5 months and 75lbs now, btw).

Thanks!

PS: Rattlesnakes are everywhere here now. I had no idea there were so many. Still haven't found a good rattlesnake trainer around here either. I must suck at networking in the dog world. LOL

I haven't talked to anyone yet. I saw that the Great Salt Lake Dog Training Club had info about tracking on their website. Is that who you have been trying to reach? I would just like to come down when they have a judge who can qualify me.

I am coming down to the Davis County Fairgrounds in Farmington June 7 & 8 for an agility trial. I may try to ask around a little there. I am not too great at networking either Rolling Eyes There is a really nice lady with some beautiful Vizslas I think I will ask her. I don't know where to start for someone who trains rattlesnake aversion.

Another long spurt off the forums... my bad.

Yeah, it's the greater SLC club I've been trying to get ahold of.

I guess I just have to 'show up' at one of their events and schmooz around and lurk a little.

A lot of Rosko's off leash adventurers have been axe'd from the program due to his CGC stuff his in right now (keeping him on a tight leash to make sure he dials it in and passes fine within a few tries at least) so the snake aversion hasn't been top priority. Regardless, still haven't heard of a good trainer for it down here.
