Ok, so I got the bright idea that since we've had Rosie for an official year now, we'd celebrate (again!) and make her some liver treats.
We did this for her arrival and in our excitement cooked so many that they lasted throughout her puppyhood - anywho, so I googled liver treats and there are hundreds of recipes...I was somewhat relieved to see that I'm not the only crazy person out there that actually thinks about cooking special things for their dog (every once in awhile), yay!
So here I am whipping up a beef liver in my blender (gah!) and Rosie gets up off her bed and starts sniffing around - I add the garlic powder, an egg, and suddenly her nose can reach the countertops - my has she grown!
Before I put it in the oven I couldn't resist any longer and let her have a taste - pure bliss took over her eyes, it was so adorable. 
It's amazing that something so simple can make them your best friends. It's that bond that I can't get over with weims that drives me to do more for her than I would normally think is sane!! |

Haha ok, well I modified one I found online, so I take no credit whether good or bad  I will warn you, it stinks - I have a sensitive nose, but gesh don't cook this before you have company coming over!
I used:
1 lb. beef liver
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1 egg
1 cup cornmeal
Preheat oven to 350F. Mix liver, egg and garlic powder in blender/food processor until smooth. Stir in cornmeal a little at a time, until you have a thicker batter. Spread into a greased cookie sheet or 8"x8" pan for thicker treats. Bake until dry, approx. 20-30 minutes depending on which type of pan you used (I used cookie sheet at 20 min). Cut into small squares depending on your use - I'm using for training bits so I went small. You can probably freeze and use as needed as it makes quite a fair amount (all Rosie's doggie friends might get to share in her luck).
I am relishing in the fact that Rosie will do just about anything right now to get to these things  |

| i wouldn't put garlic powder though. i know that onion powder and garlic powder can be toxic for dogs. |

I've heard that about onions - not about garlic though. Maybe if you used a lot, it could be problematic? My vet actually suggested using garlic powder on her kibble after her spay surgery as she wouldn't eat, and I don't think he would lead me astray, so perhaps it's just being very moderate in the amount. |

i don't know. i read about garlic powder in few places, that is why i said it. just in case. my vet told me one time to give tommy baby food with his kibbles, and we later found out that baby food is toxic for dogs, and that is what might have caused tommy to have seizures...so i don't really trust vets very much anymore....  |

I've heard that about garlic too, but I also have this garlic and brewers yeast powder (also comes in wafers) that is supposed to be good for their coat, skin, and digestive system. (Also supposed to help keep fleas away--in addition to their flea meds.) So I'm not sure how bad garlic can be. They love it when I sprinkle that powder on their food.

i think they meant human galic is bad. if it is made for dogs than it should be safe. |
