My Bullet had been trained not to jump up on people Sam has always been a greeter, and when he does we just turn our back an tell him to sit. Well this past week I dog sat for a friend who had to have surgery her German Shepard is so good and our dogs play together alot. This is the first time that I have kept him over night though. She has kept mine when I have had to go out of town. Well he was there since last Friday and went home Wed. night. Her dog is also a greeter, and will jump up on people. Yesterday when I got home from work Bullet jumped up on me. He would not stop he scratched me and was acting crazy. I tried turning around and he just scratched me on my back then. He also did it to my husband and my grandson, he knocked him over. He has not acted like this in forever. He would not listen to anyone. Every time we went out side and came back in he was waiting to pounce. I don't know what to do. Help!

Dirk likes to jump up on people, myself including, and I am trying a new trick that I read somewhere.
When he jumps up, grab catch his legs and start pulling up. Pull up until he starts to bite at your hands. Then this happens, uncerimoniously drop him and ignore him. Praise only when all 4's are on the ground.
So far, it seems to be working. He is not so eager to jump on me anymore. He jumps up on his hind legs still, but won't put his paws on me. It is like he changes his mind in mid air. |

Both of mine know to give hugs on command, which has helped a bit. We also just stopped giving them attention if they aren't sitting nicely. Anytime either dog is in front of me and sits with all paws on the ground, he gets a bit rub-down, lots of attention. For pawing and jumping, I ignore and turn my back until they settle down.

Tobey has a similar problem. I completely ignore him until he either sits or calms down. Once he does that, then he is rewarded with my attention. The problem is when people come over, he's figured out he can act like a fool and get their attention. We have started to use a squirt bottle, but that hasn't taken hold yet.

Our trainer suggested we take two steps forward. We don't knee her in the chest, we just claim our space. We tried to turn around but she just kept following us and we all ended up getting dizzy. It is the only thing that works. We also have our guests do that too.
