My wife's pup Zephyr started field training a few weeks ago. Yard work is strong, so field training has begun. He's coming along good for a 6mo. I'm kinda liking this pup she picked. Here's a few pics.

Thanks. He was the best looking pup in the litter, but I wasn't sure if he would make the cut in the field. I'm thinking I was wrong. He isn't quite as driven as I would like to see, but I think I can bring him out of his shell.

Had him running the other day and threw out a couple birds. I think he's coming along fine. I thought he was going to snap his neck when he whipped around. Yep, I'm really liking this pup.

Nothing like watching a pup make a solid 180 degrees turn, SWEET! Cool So what are your plans for him?
(BTW, he's got a great looking head.)

Thanks to all for the compliments on him. I really like his conformation. As we all know, breeding is a crap shoot most of the time. I got lucky with him though (well actually that whole litter) and they picked up the best traits from both parents.

He's just like his daddy. He runs hard and has to throw on the brakes. His momma is much more cautious and methodical in the field. She hardly ever blows by a bird and has that head whippin' going on. I absolutely love to see it, especially in a young dog. It shows things are starting to come together.

Zephyr is going to be my back up for Zeus in the field. I think he is going to be able to do it all.....upland, waterfowl and small game. Athena just doesn't enjoy duck hunting. She really struggles with water retrieves. She is also a little slower than I like in sparse cover. It takes her a while to cover ground. In thick cover she's excellent though. Zeus is getting older and I'm looking to the future, not only for a hunting companion, but to carry on his genes. I think Zephyr is going to be the one. I also plan on getting him in on some of the speed hunts they have at a local preserve. That pup is fast and I think he'll do very well.

Had Zephyr back out today for some shoot to kill birds. He did well. Dropped him and Zeus on a field I seeded with quail for a mock hunt. He had several finds and held his birds well. Got one pic of him and Zeus on a divided find.

On point

The retrieve looks great.

I wish I could get some action shots of mine.

That was the only picture out of about 15 that came out good enough to even tell what was going on. My camera just couldn't focus fast enough.
