|
|
My breeder just had a new litter today!! I get to have my pick, and be picked, of the bunch in 3 weeks. I have owned many dogs, but never a weimie. I have known people with this breed, but not anymore.
My question is this... which sex should I pick? Male or Female? Is one more docile or loving than the other? I have read that the males are more laid back (atleast as laid back as a weimie can get! LOL), and the females more full of vie! Any thoughts on that? Also, are the males big "markers" with their urine?
I should also note that I have 2 other dogs that are female... very loving and easy going with new animals. |

Congratulations on your baby..
it's honestly up to you if you decide to have a boy or girl. We decided on a girl because we've always had girl dogs and personally think they are cleaner. But in saying that I have never had a boy dog so I wouldn't know if they are or not!!!! |

I think you are more likely to have problems with a house full of female dogs. Sounds like you have been lucky so far but maybe getting a boy would be better.
Good luck with your new puppy!! |

We originally hoped for a female since we have an older male lap dog who can be moody with other males. I've generally had more male dogs while my husband has had only female dogs. I've personally found the males more loyal - could have just been my guys - and the girls more independent.
In the end our final decision was based on the temperament test more than sex and we are thrilled with our guy. Our little man has been dominate since day one so we haven't had to deal with his moodiness. |

I agree - i'd be choosing more on the temperament of the pups and what you think would best fit into your household and lifestyle.
I have two male setters and the Weim is a female. She fits in well... but personally i prefer males. In this case, i would be choosing a well adjusted male to fit in with your two girls. |

| i have a girl and a boy. my girl is more indipendent and laid back. my boy is a velcro dog, hyper and stubborn...so i am not sure. i guess it's all about personality and not sex |

I also think it is more to do with personality. I would suggest you go visit them as often as you can to get a good feel about which one would fit into your home.

You can't see temperament at 3 weeks, however. |

In general, I have found that female dogs tend to bond more with human males and male dogs tend to bond more with human females. That being said, my weim is a female and she is pretty equally bonded to both of us. She is loving and rambunctous and I wouldn't trade her for a second. I was looking for a MALE dog, however, before we found Banshee. Now I have two males (a lab and a cur) and two females (our weim and a dobie/rottie mix) and I love them ALL equally--but balance is good thing! Good luck with whichever you end up with.

| If you already have 2 female dogs I would probably go with a male. I have a female pug, a male weim and a female weim. The Weims personalities are so different. Duke is very independent, full of energy and smart as a whip. Gracie is very timid and sensitive and my velcro dog. She can be a bit sassy at times but she's sweet as can be. I love them both because they are so different. |

I agree with everyone. The decision is yours. I would pick a pup based on what you plan to do with your dog. Is it going to be just a good housepet or will you be hunting with it doing fun dog activities??? The only difference between the males and females is size. Every dog is its own individual and none are the same. Our girls are sisters (but have different sires) and they are completely opposite in everyway!! They don't even look alike (other than being grey, hehe) I think that is what makes them unique is that they are so similar yet so different.
We love our male as well. he is a big goof. But males do pee on EVERYTHING in the backyard.
I would suggest to let your breeder pick the pup that is right for you. They see the pups everyday from the first day they are born till the last day they go home. They know the pups the best and which one would best suit your family. Trust me this is a very successful way of placing pups |

From my experience, I totally agree...we watched the puppies right from day 1 and really since you only spend a few hours with the litter over the course of 8 weeks, for you to come up with a sound decision in 3 weeks will be impossible.
The breeder should be able to help pick one out based on what you`re looking for, but really for us, it came right down to 7 weeks old before we knew...you might just want to keep that in mind! |

Wow, tough decision. I agree with the others that I would go more for what you want to have your dog for. But if it comes down to there are 2 a boy and girl with exactly what you want, I am leaning more towards a male. I have a female Weim and she is VERY bossy and the Alpha of our pack for sure. We actually have 2 female and 2 male dogs. My male dogs (lab and then a mix) are very loving and very friendly. My female dogs (Weim and Husky mix) are both pretty independent and like to do stuff when and how they want to do them. Maybe that is just my luck.
I also think that sometimes the puppy might pick you. I have heard that before that when you go around them sometimes the puppy will pick who they want to go with, so maybe keep an eye out for one that kind of picks you guys out as well.
Best of luck with your decision, can't wait to see pics. |
