My fiance's family had to put down their family dog today. She was nine years old, and I have been there for six of those years. She was a cocker spaniel, she never barked and just wanted to be petted constantly. She was a very loving and constant companion. Within the last year she has gone deaf and blind. She developed a very serious skin infection and was in constant pain. Within the last week she could barely walk. It was a dececision that was very hard to make, but we know it was the best one to make in the end. We spent the last year trying different things to ease her pain, but nothing worked.

As I type this, my 5 month old weim is putting his toy in my lap trying to play. If it is this hard to lose a dog that was not even mine, I can not imagine how hard it would be to lose him.

I am so sorry about Fiona.....she isn't in pain anymore.

I know what you mean...I get emotional over dogs I've never even met. I still cry over a dog I lost 11 years ago. I don't know what I'll do when I have to say goodbye to one of my sweet babies.

I light a candle for every dog at the bridge I "know" whether they are from my real life, online forums or clubs...even if I never met the dog. I let their light shine on with each candle.

doG Bless and RIP Fiona

When I met dh, he had a dog for 18 yrs. within a year the dog passed away. That was 21 yrs ago. Whenever we speak of Apple, someone gets choked up and cries. He was an amazing dog and a childhood memory for so many in Chris' nieghborhood!
