I took Bow with me the other day to a storage facility we have, where I am setting up a biodiesel processor. I am an idiot and forgot about all the rat poison that is laying around. I have never had a dog I could take with me all these places and sometimes do not realize the danger that I expose him to.
I do not think he ate any but called the vet and she said make him vomit and bring him in for Vit K shot and pills. I did. Blood work next week. She said it will take a month to leave his system. So I have a month to worry about his condition. It would be the first time in his life he did not eat something that was not attached to someone or something, ya'll know the weim appitite.
Bow needs you prayers.
I need someone to kick me in the head.
BTW I found out that if you need your dog to vomit something up, just mix some salt and water and pour it in there mouth. It is like a vomit button. Really quick. Make sure you are outside.

Many, many, many, good thoughts and prayers for Bow. I kinda think if he had eaten rat poison you would have seen symptoms right away. I hope you are just being paranoid...and a very good weim Daddy....please let us know how he is doing.

I agree that if Bow had eaten some, you would probably have seen some signs of it, but better safe than sorry. Good luck to Bow and to you!

I've seen the effects of rat poison on a dog, thankfully not ours, and it was within a matter of hours. Thoughts and prayers to Bow but it sounds like he was sensible enough not to touch it!

To save someone a call to Poison Control (which cost us a lot just to get the answer) 3 oz. of hydrogen peroxide works well as a vomit solution, too... and we went through the vitamin K regiment as well. Not our rat poison... we were cleaning out our new house & didn't know it was there. Luckily, my husband caught Roofy right away...

Came in handy when Roofy also ate two bags of ground coffee (you think he'd have learned)... except it was around 11:30 at night, and after a half hour walk outside and without any warning, he yakked it all up on our bed... I had to laugh at my hubby totally gagging as we stripped the bedding... ha ha! Laughing He has the weakest stomach... Wink

You are no different than the rest of us. If we could forsee everything our weims did than they would be the perfect pet. We try our best to protect them but like Heidi they do the most spontainious things. We deal with the situation as you did and move on and hope the results are in their favour. You then take action so it doesn't happen again and you tell others of your experience so they don't repeat the same one. We are all trying our best with our pets.

I am sure all will be fine. I beleiveyou would see reaction to the poision by now.

I hope that he is ok.
This happened to me once - the shed was left open and I accidentally let out the dog... to this day we do not know if he ate any or not but we got him straight to the vet where they made him vomit. He was fine after that.
I am sure he will be fine. Big hugs to Bow and just remember - these things happen!!

the hydrogen peroxide worked well for us too.
keep in mind the dangers in your home... in our case, steel wool - a brillo pad, with the soap.

also - a pinch of salt in the back of the throat can do it on its own too.

my vet said 3 oz peroxide, 5 minute wait, 3 more ounces, 5 min wait, pinch of salt. somewhere in the second 5 min wait Riley threw up things I dont think she knew she had in her.

Happens to all of us - cant prevent everything - its about preventing what you can, reacting to what you cant, and learning from your mistakes.
