I think I'm lucky to live in Oklahoma and be on a name-by-name basis with my vets. For a fecal exam it's $10, for heartworm check $20 (I think they gave me a discount though, because it was positive), for rabies shot $10, Neuter of an 85lb dog $75, blood work runs $50, nail clips $12. Not too expensive, but it adds up quickly. Rolling Eyes

When I took Sadie in for several exams after her "asthma" attack they did several xrays, blood work, and kept her a day it only cost me $100. I thought that was dang good.

gosh can you introduce us. It might be worth the drive. I know my vet personally and an office visit is $65.00. Thats just a plain visit.

I'm also from Oklahoma and I pulled out my last bill to get current on vaccines for 2 dogs and it was $118.

Rabies 29.00
Distemper 7.50
Hepatitis 7.50
Parainfluenza 7.50
Parvovirus 7.50
Leptospirosis 0

Total 59.00 / dog.

However, that being said I called them about a neuter for a 65 lb dog, and they said it would be $155... Looks like I am going to call around a little bit for that op.

What have you guys paid for neuters?

The key is to bring homemade cinniman rolls! Haha, not even kidding though. I took some rolls last Saturday for how well they took care of Scooter for his heartworm treatments. They love me there! Laughing

WAY more than $155!! I "bought" a discount certificate for $65 and the vet "only" charged me an additional $150 WITH that certificate!! The other vet I found will only charge me around $100 with the certificate, but was reluctant to neuter my boy because they hadn't seen him before and didn't administer his shots (I got those done someplace else!). It's such a SCAM around here.

Banshee13....check out Rocky Gorge Vet in Laurel
www.rockygorgevet.com

I've been going to Dr. Wolchinsky there for about 12 years now and couldn't be happier...and they just opened a new building thats amazing. I've always found their prices extremely reasonable for the quality of care. Dr. Farnan is also really great to work with.

We DO go to Rocky Gorge. I think it was MY vet bill that helped to pay for that luxurious new complex!!! I agree it is beautiful, but the "pet resort" is still VERY expensive, and what they charge for shots, etc., is more than I can pay elsewhere. (I'm still waiting for the price increase that I am guessing will come with that nice new facility!) I'm sorry, but with the "brood" we have, we have to look for the most economical way to give them the best care we can. Vets who don't give much, if any, discount for multi-pet services don't do rescuers justice!

I tried to pull some old bills for comparison and I couldn't find many.

Gert's office visit: $20
Gert's rabies :$20
Ethel's Office visit (recheck): $27 - this was a followup for a sore she develpoed on her side, since she wasn't getting any vaccinations the office visit was higher.

I was recently comparing vet prices with some co-workers and they were FLOORED at RGV's office visit prices. One girl I work with pays $45 flat just to see her vet...now thats crazy.

I agree that since you care for multiple pets that vets should work with you on prices. Unfortunatly that's not the nature of business I guess Confused I'm assuming you asked someone if there were any discounts available to you?

My old vet vs. my great weim aware new vet
Professional Consultation - $56...........$40
Recheck - $37.50
Nasal Bordatella Vaccine - $20............$15
Spay-$179 + $70 if you want IV
Hospitalization - $30 per day
Heartworm test - quoted $50-60..........$35 (including Lyme & Erlichiosis)

My new vet spends as much time as you want discussing options, getting the dogs comfortable before working on them, finding the smallest gauge needle to give the vaccinations (b/c she knows weims can have vaccination reactions) and has contacted a Veterinarian Dr. of Pharmacology to get an answer for a question, then emailed me an answer. She will also call in prescriptions to a human pharmacy if there is a generic available - which can save big bucks!

WELL WE ARE ABOUT THE SAME HERE IN MICHIGAN. $40 FOR AN OFFICE VISIT. BUT ALL IN ALL GET PET INSURANCE. AT LEAST YOU KNOW YOU ARE GETTIN AT LEAST IF NOT ALL OF YOUR MONEY BACK!! I LOVE MY PET INSURANCE. YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT THING COSTS THESE DAYS AND WITH WEIMS YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO GET OR WHAT CAN ACCIDENTLY HAPPEN. IT IS A GOOD FEELING YOU DON'T HAVE TO THINK TWICE BEFORE RUNNING A TEST FOR THEM!!

VPI PET INSURANCE IS THE WAY TO GO!!
