| We have been taking Heidi to the local provinical park for months now. We are out for a good hour and she runs, and runs and runs some more. Mostly we have stayed on the back trail so as not to bother people that stroll thourgh out the rest of the park. Well tonight we took a different route and checked out the water falls. Not a problem she came when called when we saw her venture to close to the swift moving water. There is a four foot high stone wall that protects the edge of a 50 plus foot drop just under the falls and Heidi decided (not on leash) that she wanted to see what was on the other side. With one sleek leap before we even had a chance to call her she was gone over the edged. A one km run back to the van to race into town to call the fire dept, 10 firemen respond, with repelling ropes they proceed down the rock face and grab a very frantic dog. I am still so ashamed and still amazed she is still alive. She was in the fridgid waters for about 5 minutes before she managed to pull herself from the turbulent waters. She has some cuts an scrapes and so far seems to be doing well. I have called the vet to see if there is anything I should be watching for. Taking Heidi in tomorrow for a check up. Both my husband and I know it was stupid to take he to such and unsecure area, Weims and naturally courious and even more they are fearless and proceed without caution. I am still sick with shame. |

I agree with everyone - don't beat yourself up with this. Accidents occur everyday...just be thankful she's ok. (even though I'm sure your nerves are frazzled)
She may need a new toy or treat after her harrowing ordeal, no? |

Accidents do happen. Weims are curious, and she didn't know what was below. You are not a bad dog mom!
Kisses and hugs for Heidi. Keep us posted! |

I have had more than my share of guilty accidents with my babies.
I am so happy that Heidi is o.k. Put it behind you and give her a big hug from me. |

Oh my goodness! That is amazing she's not hurt. But you have to not be hard on yourself, you love her so much and accidents do happen. Just make sure to give her lots of hugs and kisses. And also hugs and kisses from Scoot, Sadie, and me!
PS. My heart is racing from just reading that. |
