|
Our breeder forwarded us some information about Rick Smith and his hunting Foundation seminar. He is coming to within 20 minutes of us in August and they highly recommended we consider the course.
Lincoln will only be 4 months old at the time of the seminar. Plus it's $350 for a weekend seminar.
It's so hard to make a decision since we don't even have our puppy yet.
So my questions are, have any of you taken any of his seminars?
Have you heard of anyone you has taken the seminar, and what were their thoughts on it?
Is 4 months too young to gain any benefit?
Is it worth $350? Our breeder seems to think it is, but we're not sure.
Here's Rick's site:

| Rick Smith puts on some great seminars. It is well worth the money if you plan on hunting or trialing. The age of your pup really won't matter, because the seminar is for the owners/handlers not the dog. |

I too have heard that Rick Smith puts on AMAZING seminars. I personally have not gone to one yet but am hoping for the same one you may go to. Also there is another great trainer in the London Area. He has realyl helped us. It doesn't matter how old your dog is. it is never too early or late to train. I thinkyou will get a lot out of the seminar especially on how to work with your weims natural instincts. We have never had formal training just worked with what our weims gave us.
I say go for it!!!!!! Hope to see you there |

So he is coming to somewhere near London? I have heard he is great but I had only heard of American seminars. It might be interesting to go. Could you post more information?
We drive to London to train but I don't know if it's the same person as Weimwayz mentioned. I love the training days and Marvin obviously does too as he starts to whine as we approach the field. The hour and a half ride home he is silent but for the odd grunty snore. Which reminds me of my whoa homework.... |

Here are the details of the seminar. We've decided not to go, due to cost, as well as being at the cottage that weekend, so unfortunately it won't work out.

Gold Creek Farms is proud to present The Rick Smith foundation seminar August 8th, 9th, and 10th.
LINK: http://www.huntsmith.com/seminars.php
Rick Smith believes everyone is capable of training their own bird dog. He has dedicated himself to helping people achieve their goal by refining the system his father, Delmar Smith, started decades ago. With Rick's updated methods the Silent Command System was created. Drawing on generations of family background in bird dog training, Rick and his cousin, Ronnie Smith have trained thousands of dog owners world wide. They believe in a strong foundation of basics which are covered in the original and highly popular Foundation Seminar. This builds on the language and instincts our dogs already have and teaches dog owners how to understand the way dogs think and react without bringing human emotions into the training process. As dogs and owners progress to the next stages of training, Team Huntsmith has added new seminars to encourage progress and give graduates of the basic seminar new challenges.
The methods are proven, both in the field and in competition. Rick has compiled an enviable record including 3 National championships, 7 US Open Championships, 6 International Championships, and well over 100 All-Age firsts. Some of the records he set still stand today, 25 years after retiring from competition! In the field, both Rick and Ronnie put their methods to work, guiding on the Mariposa Ranch in South Texas. Each season requires 100 bird dogs, trained to perfection.
Rick is a breeder as well, raising fine Brittany pups that are pleasing owners all around the globe. Ronnie Smith is a well-respected trainer and field trial judge. He maintains his public training kennel in Big Cabin, Oklahoma. Ronnie's excellent training and teaching skills combine with his sense of humor to make him a favorite at seminars.
We are dedicated to helping each and every individual at every seminar. The classes are fun, entertaining and full of information. From problem dogs to complete beginners, there is something for every person and every dog no matter what breed, age or hunting style
The cost for the foundation seminar is 350.00 so book early as he only takes on 20 people.
Thanks

Interesting. The news this spring was that Gold Creek would be closed all year. Thanks for the information. |
