I thought I could fix this, but my little girl is a typical weim, and she's (so far) outsmarted her mom
We have a huge backyard with a six foot wooden privacy fence. There are neighbors' dogs on either side. All 3 of my dogs are fine when all of the other dogs are in the other yards, except for one. When my neighbor's black lab is out walking in his own yard with his owner, Lexi (my 10 month old female) will bark if she sees him through the slats in the fence. He completely ignores her. He's never come to the fence, never barked at her. He is however, always walked on a leash because they do not have the rest of their yard fenced in. So she could be barking at the neighbor I suppose.
Now, she KNOWS she's not supposed to bark. When I am in the yard she doesn't do it. She just watches through the fence. If she starts to bark, the minute she sees me at the back door, she stops and walks away from the fence. So, my question is, how do I stop the barking when I'm not outside? It's not a continuous, aggressive bark. But it's barking. And she is SO loud. Her bark is a lot deeper than my male's bark and I don't want it to start annoying the neighbor's when she's out at 6:30am on a Saturday and barking because I'm in getting coffee and she knows she can get away with it for a few seconds.
Thanks!! |

Hi here are a few suggestions......
If she ever barks anywhere near you, shove a titbit under her nose. She should take it, and you say the word 'Quiet'. Train her to obey this word.
Fix up a baby alarm so she can hear you say 'Quiet' from the house
Leave her with one of those toys that contain food and dispense them on the ground as she rolls it around. This should distract her from next door's activities.
Good luck |
