I lost my first Weim to kidney failure. We got him from a breeder in PA who had him OK'd from hip displasia but apparently he was born with bad kidneys. I had to put him down and he wasn't even two years old. He was my baby and I still cry. That was two years ago. Is this a common problem with Weims???? |

| Oh, wow. I'm so sorry for your loss. They take up such a big part of our hearts in such a short time. I haven't heard of kidney problems. Had he been on any medication prior to this problem? Heartworm med(proheart6 was on the market a few years back and caused devestating results in many dogs. It has since been pulled)? Please tell us more about your baby. Again, I'm so sorry! |

| I don't believe it's a common problem in Weims. I am sorry you had to go through that, how devastating. |

| The breeder we bought Petey from said there had not been any kidney problems with his dogs. I guess it's like humans...sometimes you are born with a defect that isn't noticed till time goes on. We got our second Weim, Dobby, from the same breeder only from a different set of parents. He is pretty healthy...EXCEPT...and maybe someone can help me out with this. I can't find any information on it. Dobby appears to have a small square patch on each of his eyes. I told one vet because we thought he had been scratched by one of the cats and the vet said yes and gave me bacitracin which I used but the patches are still there. They are rectangular and on the same spot in each eye. He appears to see very well. He is due to get fixed soon and his shots. I will ask the vet then but in the meantime if anyone knows what this might be, it could help when I tell the vet about it. |

Hmmmm... I have no idea about the patches in his eye. You are saying they are IN the eye, like on the eyeball? I don't know about the cat since you say it's the same in each eye. I wonder if an eye specialist would be advised in this case.
I just took Riley to an ophthalmologist because of he had something stuck in his eye. Take a look at their site, there is a list of eye problems with descriptions of each. Maybe you can find something here that matches what is going on with your dog.

| I am so very sorry about your loss. I have a 7 mo. named Riddick and this morning I was getting ready for work and he started coughing/ gaging like he was going to throw up and then all of a sudden he fell over and wasn't breathing. My boyfriend tried to open his mouth to try and see if anything was blocking his windpipe and we couldn't even get his mouth open, but then just as suddenly as it had happened he was fine and seems to be fine. The vet has recommended that he go in for tests on his heart, I drop him off tonight... I am praying that he will turn out ok, but I couldn't imagine loosing him. |

| OH Gosh Heather. Poor Riddick. I'll keep you all in prayer that you find some answers for Riddick. It's so hard when they can't tell you what's wrong. He wasn't always like this right? Perhaps it's an allergy haivng something to do with the seasons??? Has his breeder experienced anything like this??? Poor thing! |

Heather - I'm so sorry - I hope that the vet finds that it was nothing -
I know exactly how you feel -
There is a dog flu going around that I heard about on TV the other night - might want to ask the ver about it
Hope he is okay! |
