Hi guys, I found some interesting info about our wonderful breed that I thought I would share. It came from http://www.fastdirectory.net/weims/1.htm,
Field Trials and Hunt Tests
Being an excellent pointer the Weimaraner falls into the category of hunting dogs that the AKC classifies as eligible to compete in field events sanctioned by that organization. Here the Weimaraner has to bring to bear all of its’ natural skills to compete with other pointing breeds. Intelligence in where to find birds, a keen nose to locate them, swift legs to best the competition and intensity and staunchness on point indicating the find. In this sport the smaller, quicker dog tends to excel. The size of the original deer and boar dog bred in Germany and the tendency to trail game instead of use the wind for scent challenge the Weimaraner in this sport. Not to worry, the Weimaraner rises to the challenge and perfects each skill and brings strong competition to these events. |
