Trying to talk someone out of getting a weim? Show them my pictures...
What I came home to yesterday.
What he did to his nails.
Him in Josie's crate. Clearly locked.
Poor Josie, she has been putting up with all of this really well.
Cache in the crate with his favorite kind of bone ever. He is actually kind of content, for the next five seconds until he finishes it.
Mommy says I'm cute.
I padlocked his crate-- then came home to this.
He really needs to think this through better, though. I came home to see the recycling on the floor, but this bag of dog treats, right next to it, completely untouched.
The End. |

| So he slid out under the door??? Wow. I'm sorry he is giving you so much trouble. Hopefully you'll find a solution soon. |

Yeah, he's not actually a weimaraner, he's a snake?!?! I think he may have pushed the bottom half of the door open and gotten out through there? I played around with it a bit, and that was the most likely scenerio. Well, that or he can shrink himself. |

| Sky used to slip her tray out like that too, and the carpet under the crate is dug up. John drilled holes in the tray and cable tied it to the wire crate, and cable tied pieces of plastic to each side of the crate as well. We also had someone make us a steel tray but haven't needed to use it. |

Thanks for the idea. The carpet was when I left him out in the room yesterday. The tray being out was part of his master escape plan today. I'm sure it serves a purpose though so I'm going to tie it down.

I can't believe it either. He's hardcore. Weird thing is that today, when I left the door open but crated him, he hardly got into anything at all-- only the trash and the recycling.
He has another couple hours of being alone today. I'm hoping I can contain him. |

greydogs, thanks for asking! I put a bike lock at the bottom of his crate. He has chains at the top and sides and back and a lock on the door. But, my boyfriend came home and BOTH dogs were out. Fortunately, they didn't get into anything major.
GailB, he is SO cute and innocent. He's really an angel when I'm here. He has very good manners. Until I walk out the door, then it's trouble.
PamK, he still got out even with a bike lock on the bottom part today. He is REALLY clever and determined.
I'm only gone for about four hours a day so I don't think I need a petsitter, but I might hire a prison guard. |

We began crating Cooper again after we found Indy could not be left out.(see Weim Crime)Cooper escaped a number of times by collapsing the rear or front crate door of a crate like that pictured - the tray was partly out when we came home too. Pulling himself out the small space seems to put the crate back together. Maybe that's what your guy did too!
We used plastic ties that you get at the hardware store to secure it, but he was mostly able to snap them (Even the ones you see in serial killer movies as the victim's handcuffs!!!!) Maybe the ties would work for you. I fear that once they find they can escape, being crated becomes a challenge to them.
When Cooper could not break the ties, he started taking the kennel apart by pulling off the wires!!! We came home to several wires bent at 90 degrees into the cage. He could have impaled himself on them!
We considered building a run in the basement at this point... but we decided to try leaving him free & continuing to crate Indy in the same limited area. This has worked for us, but our chewer was not our escape artist as in your case. The indoor run may be a worthwhile idea. |

Oh my gosh! I can't believe that...I'm I guess I'm lucky that Zane hasn't decided to pull anything like that, and that he's only eaten a few bras and most of my plants in the backyard.
It's so shocking, but the fact that there are chains and locks all over the outside of crate is really hilarious! I cracked up when I saw that!!! I think he's f-ing with you!!! |

What a houdini! can't believe he got out of all those shackles and bolts! sorry about your carpet..
it'd be interesting to see exactly how he done it. Maybe you should set up a little camera and catch him in the act?! or maybe you just have really strong mice.. |

Update: We got some more locks and chains for my time away tomorrow. I set up a camera on Friday, but I only had about 20min of blank tape and spent most of it standing outside yelling at them for barking, so he knew better than to attempt escape. I'll try to set one up tomorrow. The video is kind of funny though. Cache is barking at the door and Josie is barking at Cache. I think she is like "shut up! you're going to get us yelled at again! shut up already! you're barking in my ear!"
So tomorrow, there will be videos, but hopefully no escapee. We always dare him to get out of it though and boy is he up to the challenge. |

I bet those people who think crates are abuse would really go off on this one. But hey, he didn't get out! |
