So, I have two very energetic weims. Chevy is 15 months and Hemi is 10 months. They are very calm around me, hubby, and other family members, but I would like to bring over the little girl I nanny for more often.
She has been over once, and she did very well. I armed her with a spray bottle, but I would like Chevy and Hemi to leave her alone while she is walking around, like they do me.
Is this just because she is little?? Because she is their size? Do you think if she is exposed to them more often, they will get 'bored' with her.
They are never harmful to her, just 'excited' and they can be overwhelming. And her parents are more than happy that she is exposed to them. They are for it.
All in all I feel it is a good situation, but I want them to see her as 'in charge' too. Is that possible? Can they see her in charge if she has a nervous energy around them?
Anyone with kids/weims have any input?? |

my son is 8, nephew is almost 5 but looks like he is 3.. my nephew is skitchy around hooch, but getting better. i remind them to be calm if they want hooch to be calm. spray bottle is a good idea if they get really wild.. maybe leash them around her in the beginning? take them for a walk and get them tired before they are all in the house together?
let her give them some commands they are real good at recalling and give them treats. this will make all of them more comfortable with the "roles". she can also stand on the coffee table to be higher up than them to help get the point across..
the more they are all exposed to each other the better it will be.
you are lucky that her parents are willing to give you all such a great opportunity. |

Thanks for the advice. They really do love kids, and they always approach them fine at the dog park, but in such an enclosed space..aah!
Well, what I plan on doing is getting her involved in their care too. They will be getting a dog soon. When I walk them, she is going to ride her bike next to us...
So they are tired when she gets in, and hopefully everyone can enjoy the experience more. |
