Our big chicken of a weim, Cache, will not let me cut or dremel his nails. He's cool with the dremel, until I pick up his paw. He's fine with his paws being touched too, if the dremel is not on.
I really don't want to take him to PetsMart everytime his nails need trimming. Josie loves having her nails done, too. She'll just sit in front of me and give me her paw or lay in my lap.
Any ideas? |

| i can't do it to tommy, because i guess, he throws a fit with mommy. my husband does it. it took him several days, doing a nail per day, with plenty of treats. now tommy still doesn't like it, but he will finally let you do it. treats work magic sometimes |

| John does nails. Takes some time to get her to accept it, but she's pretty good about it. A couple times I put a towel over her head so she couldn't see what was going on... |

Jack doesn't care who does his nails. LOL My seven year old once painted his nails a lovely shade of "Barbie Girl Pink". LMAO He sat there the entire time thinking he was being pampered.
... To him, any attention is great attention... even if it means having his nails filed |

I do my pup's nails about once every week and a half. When I first did them all she got was treats upon more treats so when she sees the dremel tool she gets all excited. LOL!
When I first introduced the dremel to her, I made sure I did it late at night when she was exhausted. That way she had less energy to fight me...LOL!

When I get out the clippers, I get out the treat bag too. They both get a treat after I'm done. I do the same thing with ear cleaning. It seems to work pretty well. |

| Thanks for the advice. We've been trying really hard. They get SO many treats when the dremel comes out, but he just doesn't care. I think he's just hopeless and I should just keep taking him somewhere. I might make my boyfriend try, though. He's the one who gets all "we can't take him to the pet store to do it every month!" |

I cant cut Champs either, He runs, I have tried the treats, and it
still doesnt work. We have had them cut at Petsmart, but the last
time we went, the lady that cuts them said that he tried to bite
her, (which I think is doubtful), but I could be wrong. So I have
been filing them down when he is asleep. I know I could probably
cut them when he is alsleep, but I am the biggest chicken that I am
going to cut into the quick.
I have called the vet and they said that, they do cut nails, and they
will have to put a muzzle on him, and if two people cannot hold him
while they do it, they will not cut them. He is 90 lbs, I guess if this doesnt work I am going to just have to suk it up and do it. But I dont want to hurt my baby! Everytime, I think about doing it , I get sick to my
stomach.
The filing is working, but the front paws seem too long for my liking.
The back ones look really good. Every night when he is asleep
on the couch while I am watching TV, I am filing them down.
