can some one give a detailed way to use the E-collar

Proper collar use is much more complicated than a post or 2 will cover. I suggest getting a really good book, video or mentor. Improper use of the e-collar causes way more problems than it fixes.

My weim in 18 months and she hasn't been introduced to the e-collar yet. "She's right at that point where she can handle a little more pressure but there should be no hurry to break her. " -And this is coming from one of the great (well known)...field breeders of weimaraners.
But every weim is different. With that in mind, how much bird exposer has your pup had?

I started E-collar training on my weim when she was at 8 months. As long as it's introduced correctly, I don't see how there would have to be a great worry of "breaking" him or her.

We introduced it as an extension of a leash and she's grown to love it. It's never been used as a punishment and we've avoided having her 'collar trained' (as in, not behaving when the e-collar is off of her). She loves having it put on, because she knows that means she keeps her independence and can stay off-leash more.

The only temptation that I've had to fight when dealing with it, is introducing it on new commands too early. Make sure the dog knows the command and exactly what is expected and can comply reliably. Once each command is to this point, we overlay the e-collar in the same manner that you overlay a verbal command. Teach the desired behavior, overlay a verbal command, overlay a whistle command, THEN overlay an e-collar stimulant.

I was informed that by breaking too early you risk the possiblity hindering a pup's hunting ability and depending which method you use (to break)...a pup is going to lose some of it's style. (Sorry, I hope that's not too confusing) Wink

I also read something very interesting about some weims possible being born broke. (carrying the gene...) Anne will know what I'm talking about...

You're right...the e-collar is in a sense, an extension of the CC.

I think it is all up to the individual. It also depends on what your after. It is true lots who do Field Trial there dogs won't attempt to break them for at least a year sometimes even 2 years because you will lose some range. We typically begin to teach the dog whoa as an extension of the stay command but they can't sit in a whoa. Many people won't teach sit for the first year either. Then the use of a check cord (long lead) is the best tool in my opinion to steady a dog. Young pups can start to establish a point by just using a bird wing on a fishing pole. Older dogs that have already established a point can also just be trained on lots of wild birds and they will quickly learn they can never catch them.

Hindering hunting ability? I don't think so, hindering range? most definitely.

As for the eCollar, I won't use one until they are at least a year old.
