| I had so much grief from some close family relatives about breeding my girl Gracie Mae. From the moment I thought about getting one, I knew I would breed her, if she turned out to be the best representation of the breed. I am not a gringo when it comes to breeding in general, having owned and bred Arabian horses for several years. I feel Weim's are very much like the Arabian horse, down to the high tail set, and regal elegance. Anyway, they believed I should have rescued one instead of bought one. Don't get me wrong, I have adopted many dogs, cats, etc.in the past, however, this time I really had a plan...Was I wrong? Are there really so many unwanted Weim's out there? I am feeling guilty..Any thoughts? |

| There are lots of unwanted Weims out there, but they are almost always in rescues. Shelter stats have gone way down. http://spanieljournal.com/33lbaughan.html |

What do you mean if she's the "best" representation of the breed? Do you show her? Has she earned her Championship in conformation and at least one other title in field/hunt trials, obedience or agility? If so, then there is always room for well bred dogs, and let me add BRED RESPONSIBLY (have homes in line before your breeding takes place!) however there are far too many in rescue right now. Most place in excess of 80 weims a year, PER rescue, some in the 200 range. That's too many unwanted dogs, to add more to.
Weims are beautiful dogs, but unless you plan on showing your dog, there are a lot of BEAUTIFUL dogs in rescue. |

| There ares SO many unwanted weims out there, and unwanted dogs in general. There is about a weim a day on the Kansas City craigslist and our rescue is overrun with dogs. These are BEAUTIFUL, smart, great weimaraners. Contact your local rescue about volunteering-- fostering, experience the plight of the second hand dog before you bring some more dogs in to the world. |

While I think they are the cutest things when they are puppies, I am sorry, but I dont know why anyone would want to bring more into this world with so many without homes. I wish there was a law that breeders could only have one litter and then the female would have to be spayed. This is a fight that I am having with my son who owns the dog that I take care of. I want to have him nuetered and he wants to have him mate with another weim. I am sorry, but I am fighting a very hard fight with both parties.
I told them if they want more weims, rescue them!!! So far I am winning
We cant get AKC papers and the other party wont do it unless he is
AKC registerd. I can get them, but I have to go back to his breeder, and
that could take a loooooonnnnngggg time!!!
Just my opinion.

Maybe you should just take him and have him neutered one day. Your son doesn't see him everyday does he? Let him find out the day he goes to breed him. |

| AW! Poor guy. Tell the Vet to replace them with some implants. Then just say he must be sterile when the bitch doesn't get pregnant. |

We actually did this when i worked as a vet assistant! It was a sheltie and the wife wanted the dog neutered and the man didn't. They really do have prosthetic testicles!!!!! |

One must be very careful of laws they want. Limiting freedoms isn't the way to go. Let's say a law is passed to limit to one breeding. Then someone decides that is too many, so let's have none. Or maybe it worked so well they decide to apply the same philosophy to people to cut down on the population boom. Just look at China to see the ramifications of that. More legislation only makes things more difficult and takes away freedoms. Education is the way to go. |
