Boil them for about 15-20 minutes with the broth, the flavor and smell should last 3-4 weeks from my expirience. You can mix it up too and Turkish nevers seems to grow tired of the nylabone due to the different sents and tastes.
Have fun!!! |

| okay, is my pup particularly gifted in the chew department or what, cuz he chews through nylabones, to the point of eating pieces off of the end, so i have to take them away, in 10 minutes or less.. |

| hooches mom, you might be getting the eadible ones, they look the same, so be sure you get the ones that say for tough chewers. they arent all made out of nylon, but they are the ones that last |

my name is Tara, BTW.. and yeah, the natural edible ones he ate and got a little agressive when cass tried to take one away, so i did get the bigger inedible one for puppies, but he chewed up the end so fast, that i could break pieces off.. so i had to chuck it. i got him the nylabone teething keys.. he likes that and so far it has held up better than the bacon flavored large nylabone..
go figure.. i thing he is too little for the gallileo nylabone, but maybe not.. |

Marvin likes the Galileo but didn't do so well with the edibles. Both rawhide and the edibles reappeared the next day so we are sticking to real bones or chewables only. My hubby wants to know why our dogs are always sick about an hour before we are going to get up in the morning. I hate waking up to gaging. |

Okay 1 more question about marrow bones! Does anyone put the bone in the fridge between chews? This may sound crazy ( my husband thinks I am) but since it is meat I feel like I need to keep it cool when Jasper is not chewing on it. He doesn't always get all the marrow out and will leave it sit for a little bit, but if he leaves it out more than an hour or so I feel like it should go in the fridge! Kyle says Jasper is a dog and it could be out for days and not hurt him, but I am such a germ freak that all I think is BACTERIA! I was also wondering how many is too many? We have been giving him one on Saturdays, but I feel like that may be too much. |

I take raw marrow bones out of the freezer, rinse them off and give them to my dogs, yes, I sometimes do put them in the fridge if I want to give them to them the next day and draw out the life of the bone, but usually never. They work on the them for quite awhile(I mean days or weeks). I've never had any smell.
They steal them from each other and then pull other ones out of the toy basket like they were looking for a favorite.
Its great for Gunther if he has to spend a few hours in the crate.
We get ours at Shop Rite, my husband got in with one of the butchers, they cut the huge ones down for us and always hold them for us until we get to pick them up. |

When I first started giving them marrow bones, I would take them away at night, wrap them in tin foil and put in the fridge til the next day. But that's about it. After the first day, they have pretty much devoured the outside meat. They have never gotten sick and the bones never smell. It certainly won't HURT to put the in the fridge, but after a while, you end up with so many bones in various states of demise, I can't keep track of the fresh ones. (I have 4 dogs, though!)

Yes I put them in the frige or freezer.
Germ freak huh? Kyle is right, germs are not going to hurt him unless he's unhealthy. My dogs often will bury their bones until later, that's fine with me, they never get sick from it.
You can give him as much as you want, but initially do not give him too much marrow, that is all fat and can give him diarrhea. But once they are used to it, it's fine. Unless he's gaining a ton of weight from it. |

| We never used rawhides for Mona because she could eat one in about 20 minutes We switched to marrow bones and store them in the freezer. We use a ton of marrow bones. Mona made them clean as a whistle in an hour or so. Jonah is not so adept. We refer to them as "babysitters" because they keep him occupied for hours sometimes. However, his latest stunt is to climb up on me and gnaw his bone on my chest or on my lap or make me hold it for him so he can get a better grip! The things we do for our dogs....oh well, at least he isn't possessive, he doesn't care who "helps" him chew his bone. He has even brought it over to the cat on occasion! He does have one rawhide bone but he shows very little interest in it, except for a game of fetch now and then. |
