has anyone tried green tripe (or, fed it to their weimie, that is...)? my raw distributor said she was getting in a shipment next month and i am wondering if i should get soem for schroeder.
ps: i would also like to add that i am a single girl who eats nearly all my meals take-out. i have what my friends call the bachelor's fridge: all condiments. after buying a box of raw from the distributor yesterday, and with all the treats, i now find it hilarious that all that food that is in the fridge and freezer is for my dog. |

| I've been trying to find a place around here that sells it. My breeder said that it's excellent for dogs as it promotes digestive health and overall health. It has lots of enzymes. She throws a tablespoon in every meal! I have to do some more digging to find it! |

| Hmmm - I don't think I have heard of this. Do you have any more information on it? I do give TB yogurt and cottage cheese but from what I understand from your post, this is something that is sold as a supplement??? Would love to learn more about it. |

| green tripe is literally the piece of tripe (cow stomach lining). unlike the cgrocery store variety, it's unbleached and supposedly seriously gross to look at and seriously smelly but insanely good for dogs. |

| you can also get it canned if you can't find it raw. solid gold makes one and you can get a brand called tripette at sitstay.com. kinda pricey though. |

heather, i feed premade raw two days a week for schroeder—also because i haven't done all my research on doing my own raw yet (as well as just taking the plunge). there are different brands you can get: bravo, farmore, billinghurst, oma's, nature's variety, columbia river naturals, etc. and prices vary depending on the brand. most of the small pet supply stores in portland carry some. there is a store on burnside called MEAT that sells premade raw exclusively and the girl who owns it is really helpful.
i have tried billinghurst chicken which schroeder wasn't too crazy about; farmore buffalo which he LOVED; and i have just found a supplier of bravo (she also supplies meat for doing your own raw) out in beaverton. i bought beef blend which he really likes (though some dogs have a problem with beef), as well as buffalo which he LOVES, and rabbit (i haven't served him that yet so we will see) but she's got other meats (duck, chicken, lamb, etc), and exotics too like venison, emu, etc. the blends are meat, bone, organs, and veggies ground up but you can also get just ground meat, ground organs, and ground veggies separately and mix your own percentages. bravo also doesn't supplement so you can do your own supplementation. i also get my rec bones for schroeder from her (they are SO cheap) and she is getting some green tripe next month which i want to try out. she is also less expensive than what i have found in the stores.
another benefit: on raw days, schroeder has soooo little poop which is great so he is using almost all of the nutrients he is eating.
if you would like, i can email you her product list and her contact info for you. just PM me. |

Green tripe is great stuff but definitely stinky and gross! Lots of good bacteria in it too. I woudl not get the canned stuff. While I'm sure it's better than kibble, canned foods are heated at a very high temperature and pretty much does away with all the good stuff.
FOr anyone contemplating raw, there is a Weim specific raw list that you can join at www.weim.net/mailing.htm |
