Thought some might like to see some pics of the oldest National Championship for Pointing bird dogs in the US(I think anyway). It is run on the Ames Plantation the 2nd week in February and has been since the late 1800's. If I recall correctly it is open to ALL pointing breeds, but you must win fist place in two qualifiny trials to become eligible to run. Smile

Wow....Shocked
Just more incentive to train hard so we could we qualify in the future.
(Well, not too hard...I don't want to mess anything up, I'll train at Danni's pace...)

But still, it's nice to have future goals...

I don't know if there are any FDBS registered Weims?
I would be in utter awe if any Weim could compete at Ames. In fact, I'd say it's near impossible. Weims aren't all age dogs.... and it's a 3 hour heat. Wow. Seriously, those Pointers and Setters are something else. I train with AF Pointers and they are a very different kind of dog, really amazing athletes.

The Weim nationals started out as AF championships I believe, then switched to AKc. I recall Tom helped start up a AF championship in the 1990's I think it was called the Mid Atlantic Weimaraner Championship. I am not sure but I think that is correct.

You are right about those AF pointers and setters, they can exibit extreme range, My two are American field bred, Mattie is a Daughter of NFC Whippoorwill Wild card (won in 1996 I think) and I can't even get people to scout her off horseback anymore she ran so big. One guy called her a horse killer. Crying or Very sad

Yeah but what amazes me about Pointers and what I think some Weim people don't understand... is that they can still be biddable cooperative dogs even when they are a mile out. Watching a field bred Pointer or Setter run is a thing of art.

Ah I didn't know that. I really wish I had talked to Tom more when he was still alive. Now I'm trying to get everything out of Gorden as I can. Smile
