| I have been very excited about getting Butler into agility when he reaches 12-13 months. Well after having Bonnie around for a week, Butler is SOOO much thicker, heavier and slower than her. Will he be any good? Will he enjoy it? I dont really like getting my hopes into something if im not going to be successful. Any thoughts? Any thick boys doing agility out there? |

There are people who have bull dogs doing agility So, i'm sure Butler will do great. Even if he's not a World Champion... you can still have a lot of fun with it.
And it's very normal for a male weim to be thicker than a female.
http://www.vimeo.com/665347 Here's a male weim winning the 24" division.
i can't wait to get Logan started. ... even if he's not a World Champ, I hope to get his Mach title anyway.
I say do it and have fun! |

I think more important than size is proper conformation. I was at Eukanuba and watched Booster and the other top agility Weims. It was a very good exercise in watching conformation, watching the way they land, the way they turn etc. A dog with poor conformation is going to break down faster usually. I do think that a larger dog is going to be slower, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't go out there and have fun with your dog! Just keep him at the proper weight and I think all will be fine. I have seen lots of big dogs doing agility, big Weims and also bigger breeds like Great Danes.
Have fun!!! Your dog will really enjoy it! |

Good point, Anne I hadn't considered that. Booster is AM/CAN Ch., for what it's worth. (I considered Boosters breeder seriously, when I was looking for my Weimy, sorry, I'm trying to explain why I'm a weim nerd )
I've already started the glucosomine/chondroiton/MSM supplements... which I hope will help. |

I have actually... I really enjoy looking at all their dogs accomplishments I'm a dork like that, i really enjoy visiting all the weim breeder sites I can find, look at their dogs, and their titles/track records. I've been learning a lot that way! LOL Truly I'm a dog dork.
Regen has great dogs, like I said, I seriously considered them. I'm very, very happy with Logan though, he's an exceptional dog, too
I'm jealous that you went to the Euk show, Anne! How fun! Were you putting one of your dogs through the agility course? |

Anne, I dont have a picture of Butler stacked, his sire was a confirmation champion, and i just wanted your opinion on his confirmation. He walks and runs straight ( no "eastness or westness?") This is the best "side view" picture I have of him. I would appreciate your honest input!!! Thanks

The Eukanuba show is AKC's annual Invitational National Championship and Obedience Invitational and Agility Invitational. They have had it in Long Beach CA the last couple of years and will have it again in Long Beach this year. http://www.akc.org/invitational/2008/index.cfm?text_event_number=2008277101
BnB, no I don't do agility with my dogs altho have toyed with it a little bit. And this was for the top contenders of each breed. I went to cheer my friends on.
scmeg72, will PM you. |

There is no reason you couldn't compete with Butler. If you find he is a little slow or knocking bars you can compete in the preferred class. In preferred he would jump one height lower than he measures and gets 5 extra seconds of course time. That means he would jump 20" bars instead of 24" I say give it a try! |

I just watched this video that you had posted. I live 10 minutes from covington washington. That is so cool to see a weim close by that WON the 24'' division in agility. (my aunt runs the 24'' division in agility with her English pointer, and was at this same show in december of last year!
This is exactly what i want to be doing with my weim!! its amazing!!!!!!!! |
