If odors start building, just hose to bring the gravel/mulch up and droppings wash away. Lime heavily every year to sterilize for pathogens and help neutralize their waste. I very rarely have any problems with offensive odors from my ducks. Noise pollution is about the worst thing with them. |
Hm that is a good tidbit. I can't keep birds since I live in the city but my friends have always hated keeping ducks because of the mess and stench. Good to know, thx |

The food they are fed can also lead to unpleasant odors. I only feed starter mash until ~3 weeks of age and then slowly transition to a diet of cracked corn, milo and fresh veggies/ garden scraps. It helps tremendously with their droppings.
Another thing I do is use a chlorine tab in their pool once a week. Saves on water and cleanings. Only have to clean and refill every 2-3 weeks. |

Good to know, thanks H20!
Anne, do what I did and keep the birds in the garage so the HOA doesn't find out! LOL! ...Although the quail can be heard in the front yard... |
