After reading weim2moms post (wishing for the best), I'm concerned that rawhide's may not be the best thing for my boy? I get those small 3" milkbone rawhide bones from the dollar store and he loves them. He usually gets 1 each night and devours the whole thing. They are pretty soft and his favorite. He looks like one of those GOT MILK billboards with a white streak across his nose when he's done. Should I be concerned?

I don't give my puppies rawhide anything. I've heard they are hard to digest and they can choke on them. Maybe others have more info?

I heard the same. They now get real bones or nylabones.

Some dogs are fine with them. Mine only get them as a very special treat and always under supervision.

Real raw bones are best.

NO NO NO!

If you have a weim like mine (who chews everything, and I mean anything) they aren't a good option. Sure they are cheap, but they don't last long at all. For weims, these are great. And if Chevy can't break it... it's a good buy.

I generaly will not give Turkish rawhides because he is a gulper, and they can stay into their system for a long time. If you do give your dog a awhide, please make sure that it isnt bleached. I prefer to give Turkish pig skin treats, he loves them and are easily broken down intestinally.

Also, with nylabones, Turkish loves it when I boil; them in a beef, veggie or chicken broth.

15 - 20 minutes is good. you will need to make sure the bone does not melt from resting on the bottom of the boiling pot, so move it occasionally with a stir stick of some sort.

You can also mix up the flavors too to keep em curious.

cheers

You can, yeah, but I just get regular and flavor them myself and when that flavor gets old, I change it.

From what I understand, the pig skinned treats are easier on thier digestive systems than rawhides. I give Turkish pig skin treats alot, and very uber rarely rawhide.

cheers
