I think it was chicken jerky that made my dogs so sick a couple of weeks ago!!! It is the one packaged thing we feed them as treats and we started only recently, although we had used duck jerky before. We just started a new bag (our second ever). It seemed different than before, more smelly and a different color, but nothing bad smelling. We were only a few into the new jerky when the vomiting started.
It turns out it's processed in China. This particular brand was not recalled, but several others were.
If you ever feed chicken jerky, you might want to check this site out. |

| I have some of these. Do you know which brands? I haven't noticed any problems in my dogs and don't know if I should be concerned or not? |

Mine are "Waggin Train" lot 96958 from ADI pet Inc in Reno Nevada- they were not recalled, but some other ones were, "Dingo" I think (sold at Wal-mart, Costco & Pet stores). My husband bought them at Costco.
When I checked out the labels, on the web, they looked really similar, and I'm suspicious that they were processed at the same plant.
Another thing I noticed - they are "sterilized by irradiation for freshness & health" & have a small package of deoxidizer like those little packs of silicone you get with shoes & purses. So it may not be the chicken but the irradiation or deoxidizer that is the problem.
The Waggin Train have 70 or more registered complaints against them with the FDA, but were cleared for molds & salmonella. However, I saw a couple of forums with hundreds of posts on them about Waggin Train & sick dogs. My dogs symptoms match those on the complaints.
I'm not feeding them to my dogs ever again. Who knows, maybe they got into them & ate too many when we were not watching, but it's not something I want to experience again. |

OMG - that's sooo scary. I feed those like crazy, I use those for training treats (i cut them into small pieces). That's really scary.
I'm so glad your dogs are OK and think I may discontinue them. I thought was doing good by buying something that is NOTHING but chicken. How disturbing. |

BEANSnBERRY, that's what I thought too!!! I thought they were such a steal as they are quite inexpensive for the amount you get compared to other treats, they are dry, not messy etc. I even tucked them into frozen yogurt kongs. My dogs LOVE them!
My dogs got 1 a day, but may have got 2 sometimes when both my husband & I were spoiling them. No trouble until this last bag, but it was noticeably different than the first bag we got in odor & color. If you google chicken jerky & get past the selling sites, you'll find horror stories not unlike the posting I had 2 weeks ago about Cooper being sick. |

We've given up on most all packaged treats except the very easily understood ingredient ones.
So, we do pig ears/skin (puffed and unpuffed) that are natural and 'human grade'.
We use Zuke's products for all other treating. They are fantastic and completely natural. Not too pricey either. In fact, we just got a great deal on a large bag of the dental bones on the web somewhere (and others)... I think it was a1nutrition.com or something where the GF found them. Love Zuke's though! www.zukes.com I believe. |
