Fen goes into get fixed today. He hit 6 mons. and still only had one testical that had dropped so we have no choice but to get him fixed. Have any of you had puppies with the same issue? How was recovery? Fen has a really touchy tummy and I'm worried he's going to vomit for the next week after the operation. Sad

Please tell me your stories, maybe it will make me feel better.

Have you thought about waiting to have him fixed to see if the other one will drop?
The vomiting after surgery is usually only for the first 24 hours, if at all. Just introduce food/water slowly after surgery.
There's tons of threads on here about others in your situation...another concern is how dang expensive it is when there's only one testicle. I'm shocked at the price difference Shocked

We waited till 6 mon. Everything I have read and the three vets I've spoken with all tell me that if it's not there by then then it's not gonna show.

Yes, it's expensive...

100.00 for the normal operation
50.00 more if they have to go into the tummy to find the other one
37.50 more if they can get to it by the incision for the one that did drop.. so if it's on it's way down the line and just got stuck.
and then 20.00 for shots.

We live in a very small farm town so these prices are not too bad really.

Wrigley is my first dog and had the same problem...i was a freakin' mess....it turned out completely fine and he is totally recovered...i think the only thing is some scar tissue build up around the incision....he was really groggy the night of and it was completely sad but by the next day he was totally fine... neither of his testicles dropped and they had to go get them from his abdomen so it was a lot like what you are worried about....stay strong tonight and then good luck trying to keep him calm and from jumping starting tomorrow...i know I could barely keep Wrigley reeled in for the ten days!!!!

yeah that part is going to be hard to do.. he's not what I would call a 'calm' animal LOL. I'm also worried a bit about stairs. To get to the main part of our house you have to go up stairs... to get to our back yard you also have to go down stairs (just 5 of them). The only place you don't have to go down stairs to get outside, or in, is the basement.

We never keep his crate in the basement. We do spend time down there but he usually sleeps in his crate, in my son's room.... do you think we should move his crate to the basement for the night so he doesn't have to go up and down the stairs to get outside? I guess one of us can sleep on the sofa next to the crate if we need to....

My Duke only has 1 testicle and is getting the neuter/surgery next Wed. He will turn 6 months on Monday....I was going to try to wait longer but they charge by weight and he's growing like a weed! Just weighed him last week and he was 52 lbs already! Ours is going to cost between $400-$620!!! Absolutely ridiculous if you ask me, but we have to do it. I'm not looking forward to it, but just want it done with. Hope your boy is doing good and has a speedy recovery. I don't know how on earth I'm going to keep Duke calm either! It seems to be very common with Weims....and most people say it's hereditary.

hee yeah you are right that's what it's called Razz

I can't believe the price difference between CA and MO!!!!! It's the exact same operation!!! Insane! I could never afford a pet if I lived in CA I guess. LOL

Yes they charge by weight here also. I'm not sure how much fen weighed in at but it's much less than your pretty puppy. I'm thinking he is around 40 lbs. My total cost including a rabies shot is 175.00.

I will be thinking of Duke next week! I'm sure it will go well.

Yeah I'm not too happy about the price, but even called around to other Vets and it was gonna be $350-$589 so I just decided to do it at our Vet. I'm really really dreading paying THAT bill.
