I've half way searched the sight for the answer to a couple of questions about my weim and didnt find the answers. Its nothing too important just curious.

She is in her second week of being in heat and her mammory glands are pretty swollen.

I also read that her private parts would swell considerably, and SHE IS.

Anything to be worried about?

Sterling's in the same exact phase your girl is in her heat. She's the same exact way.
Did you get her pants for her? Sterling tried eating hers last night, but I rushed in and saved them Wink
I was also AMAZED at how swollen her vulva got!
How has she been? Sterling's been really laid back...of course, she's also getting over an upper respiratory infection that really had her pooped for a couple of days

I plan on getting bailey spayed after this first time so i did not worry with the pants. We have been using diapers while in the house. She spends a lot of the day outside so we haven't had to use too many diapers. She really does not even act like she has one on.

I know, I was a little worried at first when i saw the size of her vulva. It actually looks painful.

She has been just as energetic and very sweet, as always.

Please be careful while she's outside. Dogs have been known to tie thru fences. Never underestimate what these dogs will do to get to each other...

I said outside, she is really in a pin that i put in the garage. I was told that a male might even tear through a fence or jump over it.

I have not taken her on any walks in fear that males will follow the sent back and beat down my door.

Thanks for the concern, that's what I love about this site.

Yeah. I was going to say be very careful. Even with pants on, I watch Sterling like a hawk when outside. When we walk, I'm on guard too...I'm also having a hard time because twice a day we go down to the beach and let her run off leash...haven't been doing that since Christmas Eve...I miss it as much as Sterling does!
I'm having Sterling spayed too as soon as she's well and the heat is over. I have no idea how some people keep a bitch and breed. I am worn out from one heat!! Rolling Eyes

no joke, its too much like work to not get her spayed.

We entertained the thought of breeding bailey for about 10 seconds, maybe less. There is a lot of time and effort that has to be put in.

Our intention was to breed Sterling as well...her father is a show dog, and her mother does agility, and we TRULY wanted to breed show dogs. I even spoke with someone here who has shown weims for over 30 years. She LOVED our girl and thinks we'd do VERY well, but of course, we have to keep her as a bitch...we scrapped that idea the first full bleeding day!

Wow...I love this site. Where else could I find out information like this!! We are contemplating showing and/or breeding our 11 month old. She has not gone through her first heat yet. I was wondering how bad it would be--I have always spayed/neutered my animals at around 6 or 8 months old. I was told I should wait to spay her until after her first "period" but now I'm not so sure I want to wait for that.....

Suggestions?

Peri

OMG, it was the worst experience in the world for us..of course, we at the same time brought in a rescue who then gave all the other dogs in the house an upper resp. funk, and Sterling was not a loving, sweet dog in heat like most seem to be. She was cranky. She pouted around the house, and when she licked herself, she threw up...ALL OVER many many times. I am scheduling her in about a month or so to be spayed. it was a bloody mess...pardon the pun..LOL!

Laney was spayed Friday. Like a lot of folks I didn't like the idea of having to deal with her being in heat. My dogs use a dog door and have access to their room and our backyard any time.

I live in a rural area and people around here just let their dogs roam loose which drives me insane ! There are at least four intact male dogs wondering my neighborhood on a daily basis. So I worried about them scaling the fence or digging under.

She did really well. They let me bring her home on Friday afternoon. We slept most of the day Saturday. She was recovering from her spay and I was recovering from a migraine caused in part from the stress of leaving my baby at the vet ! Embarassed Yesterday she was her old self. She hasn't acted like she was even sore. She managed to sneak her way back downstairs and refuses to come back up here. So I let her stay with her little dogs.
