I meant to post this a long time ago when we were talking about teeth. I think I had mentioned that I was showing a friends dog a few years ago. She was completely kibble fed and had never had her teeth brushed. My older dog, raw fed, also has had very minimal tooth care. You can see some differences. Tartar in particular, but also you can see how inflamed her gums are. On the other hand, raw fed dogs teeth do get "ground down" a lot faster.
Of course this is only 2 dogs and doesn't prove anything... But I will say, I bothered to take photos at the time because the differences to me were pretty significant.

| I know so many people that just feed their dogs raw food. I know it is better for them, but it is so much work!!! My weim has awful teeth from eating kibble. So are all bones safe for dogs??? I guess I am afraid of them choking, you know that would be my luck. |

It is more work, but worth it to me. it's always hard in the beginning, but once you do it, it does become second nature and only a tad more work.
Bones are generally safe, but there is ALWAYS a choking hazard. I supervise my dogs when they eat. Some dogs are good chewers and others are not. Bigger pieces do encourage them to chew.
A lot of people that are not comfortable with bones and choking will feed raw meat and bones ground. It's also more convenient that way, as you can just go from refigerator to bowl. There are many commercial products now that have complete raw meals. of course it's more expensive that way! |

| Can you let me know the raw food diet your weim is on??? I am really considering doing this, right now they are on Ultra Nutro food. Also, a question regarding the bones, when you have chicken or any other type of meat for dinner with bones do you give these bones to your weims? Bailey loses his mind when I give him a piece of ham can't even imagine how happy he will be with real bones. |
