so.. back in early December Jaeger's back broke out in hives

I first thought it was his food (we had switched him to Proplan which had corn as a main ingredient) but after taking him to the vet, the vet said it wasnt food related and was most likely seasonal allergies (grasses, pollens, etc)

he didnt prescribe any anti-histamines as he said it wasnt necessary and the hives gradually went away by themselves

he's been hive free until yesterday when he broke out in hives, mostly concentrated around his shoulder blades.. and also some running down his back

the night before we had given him his monthly topical flea treatment.. so I thought that must be the cause. I rang Bayer and explained what had happened.. but they said they hadnt heard anything like it and suggested I take him to the vet

they also said they would cover the cost of the consult if his reaction was in fact caused by their product

I cant get him to the vet until tomorrow at earliest.. but even so, I dont know if it's worth going seeing as it sounds like it could simply be his allergies acting up..

argh Confused

does anyone else's weims have skin issues?

Cooper gets the same bumps. They usually start on this shoulder blades, go down his back, then along his flank....and then go away. Sometimes they are so bad we call him 'Brail Dog'! The vet has done a full analysis (blood, urine, biopsy etc) - and it just seems to be some flare up from time to time that we cant put our finger on. We've changed food, bedding, toys. Now...we give him 50 mg of Benedryl for 3-4 days and then eventually it goes away. It doesn't bother him, he doesn't scratch. It happens every 4-5 months.

Poor little fella!

Cooper hasn't really had them to much lately. I think he still gets them but they are only very small. I've just put them down to mossies or sand flies as he gets them after it rains when the mossies are bad.

The fact that cooper and Jaeger got them the same week seems it could be environmental.

What about the heat? It was very hot the first time it happened and it was real hot/humid earlier this week?

Do they seem to bother him?

I hope he gets better soon!

hmmm... a lot of answers from coopers on here.
another thought - when it happens write down everything you can think of that may be a cause - weather, drugs, food, places visited, etc...
this may help you find a trend.
