|
|
| Hi everyone, I am new to the forum and I am so glad to have found it. I scanned through the posts and couldn't find anything about bed shredding. My dog Kaiser is 8 months old and is a chronic bed eater. He is crated during the day and while we are gone he pulls all the fluff out of beds, and once we stopped giving him beds, he tears his towels into little pieces. We tried the Tough bed with the guarantee from Orvis, and it lasted one day. I hate the idea of not giving him anything to lay on, so I have gone through at least 10 towels over the past few months. Any ideas... for bedding... or how to make him less destructive. |

| We rotate between towels and fleece blankets during the day. Make sure the blankets don't have any threads loose, and don't have any tears in them. KD gets them wet and sometimes gets pee on them, but they are still in one piece. Only at night do we put in a bed pad, she usually pees on or near it so it gets washed 3-4 times a week, but it is still in one piece. It is from PetSmart and it is a lambswool one side, plastic backing pad. |

| Sterling was HORRIBLE about this. She'd shred ANYTHING I put in her bed in about two minutes, and she started at about 7 months. Never had a problem before...I bought furniture pads. You know, the ones movers use in moving trucks to protect the furniture? My local pet supply carries them, believe it or not, and they were only $14. She picked at it at first, but she realized she couldn't really shred it, so now she doesn't touch it..I can even now put a fleece blanket on top of it for extra comfort and she won't touch it. |

| You can find lots of posts about this, I stick by the Orvis ToughChew bed, Luca ate everything else. Well worth the $120, 100% money back guarantee if they chew it. Wish I got it sooner |

| Yes... I tried the Orvis bed due to the guarantee, and it lasted one day. He not only shredded the green toughchew cover, but got into the inside and tore out all the foam fluff. We shoved it all in a garbage bag and took it back to Orvis. Oh well... glad others have had luck with it. |

The furniture covers sound like they might be a good plan. If not, they aren't terribly expensive... I hope they don't have tags, because for some reason Kaiser hates tags and pulls them off everything he can get his paws on. I will let you know how it works out! |

lol..they don't have tags. Sterling is the same way with tags. You're right..if they don't work, they aren't terribly expensive.
Also, if you find your pup starts chewing it, spray it with bitter apple. Sterling picked at it when I first put her in, so I took her out and sprayed it with the bitter apple (I didn't let her see me doing this.) She never chewed it again. |
