I brush Coalie's teeth, maybe not everyday but for the most part every other day and she still gets tartar. Does anyone else have this issue? She eats kibble and her snacks are hard. I get cr*p for brushing her teeth from family members but it is obviously necessary.

Any ideas how I can better control this issue. If/when I scrub to hard I end up making her gums bleed some, but the tartar is ugly... HELP

Thanks

I can't help now but we are having a teeth brushing lesson on Jan 23.

I must say you have a most beautiful baby there. Nice pic.

Have you tried a Nylabone, or maybe some rawhides? The Nylabone works wonders for Kam's teeth.

i have one of the metal scraping tools... a scaler.

zoe will let me use it to gently remove any tartar buildup from her teeth. she hates it, but she will stand there and take it. she gets a big tasty puppy cookie afterwards.

I read about the scraper - I may try that and we have tried the greeneis . As far as the nylabone, we gave up on those when she would eat the whole thing. Thanks again

the white nylabones really help - they take a while to eat.
the scraping does well on top of the brushing.

Hello, my dog also has bad teeth problems. He only eats kibble and chews on the nylabones. We usually have to get his teeth cleaned by the vet once a year. Not very expensive and his teeth are sparkly white! He is only 4 and has had his teeth cleaned a couple times now.

Chevy has sparkling white teeth! Hemi has lots of build up. But then, again, chevy is the chewer.

I try nylabones, greenies, rawhides, and biscuits. Hemi still has build up.

I brush their teeth twice a month.

Anyone know of any other non destructive toys, and tough tough tough toys that I can try??

I try to brush him nightly and give him raw bones (brisket, marrow or chicken frames) on weekends

Raw bones are completely safe...

Mine do a partial raw diet, and they have beautiful teeth. That was one of the first things I noticed that their teeth were cleaner. They have clean ears too; and beautiful coats.
