Ok, well I figured I'd start a new topic since I hijacked the "I love my dog" thread. Sorry Sad !

Does anyone else's family rag on their dog(s)??? I'm so upset about this - like I'm some kind of lunatic for loving my dogs and babying them (and GOSH, allowing Kam on furniture Rolling Eyes )!!!

Oh, all the time...If I made as big a deal about "children" then I'd be mom of the year...but I make this big of a deal over my dogs, and I'm some kind of gypsy woman Laughing

ok, my wife's family doesnt hate them... let me revise that, her dad doesnt hate them, he likes them best when they are asleep, or as they get older, her brother seems to like them, his family is scared of them, and everyone else avoids them.

My family doesn't rag on my dogs, but my brother and his wife will no longer bring their baby over cause they think Duke is so wild. I'm getting another Weim puppy this weekend and haven't told any of them cause they'll think I've lost my mind!

Hopefully, you'll get lucky with a pair that really love each other and focus on each other like ours...and not unlucky enough to get the sick crap we just went through all week! Rolling Eyes

They seriously don't get it. I went through the whole "wanting another baby" this summer, really really BAD. But I knew in my heart it was not the right thing to do---at least not right now. Then we found Kam, and he COMPLETELY filled that void Soppy / in love ! That sounds strange, but he really did.

We'll see how it goes! I've heard so many conflicting things about having 2 puppies....from 2 is better than 1 to they won't bond with me properly and will bond to each other. I am determined to spend time with each of them individually. Especially Duke, since he is only 5 months and really attached to me. I keep telling myself that I won't over-absorb myself in that new cute lil adorable puppy and forget about Duke. I think it's ok for the new puppy to spend lots of time in the crate and just observe our training and such. It's going to be easier said than done though! Luckily I don't work outside the home and can dedicate lots of time to both of them-or I wouldn't even think about doing it. When we got Duke my husband wanted a silver male and I wanted a blue female. After months of debating I gave in and let him get his silver male (which I must say is totally attached to me and not him lol) but I just couldn't stop searching and searching for blue female puppies. It was like an obsession that I couldn't stop! Then one day my husband informed me that he wants to buy me that blue female I've been wanting. Are you kidding me??!! I couldn't say no....could I? Wish me luck. My house is gonna be crazy! But I'm so excited!!!

I totally disagree with this! LOL
It's so easy to let the older one take care of the puppy but in the long run, it just makes the younger one dependent on the older one. My dogs are happy to have some alone time, altho they get along with each other fine.... It's a lot more work for me though, especially for training and keeping them in condition. Instead of 30-60 min a day of conditioning, it means 60-120 minutes... time I feel like I don't have sometimes! Oh well.

I could! LOL (I'm just kidding, she's very cute)
Whenever I see a puppy, all I see is a LOT of work!!
Give me a trained adult any day! LOL!
I'm being a little facetious of course... Puppies ARE cute, but it's been a long time since I've had puppy fever.... The bond one has with an older dog is priceless compared to a puppy IMO.
I'm getting a pup from a really exciting breeding in 2009 and I hope I'm more into it by then!!

Awwww Anne don't burst my bubble! Very Happy
I do know what you mean and I expect alot of hard work. But like I tell people the joy I get out of my dogs is SO well worth it to me. I tell everyone that Duke is a little SH*T but I ADORE him! They look at me like I'm nuts! I think I caught the Weim bug. Sometimes I am completely exhausted and frustrated with Duke, but most of the time it is pure joy. I absolutely love working with him and training him and am thrilled with his progress. He has come a long long way in a couple of months and I am so proud of him (and me) that all of this hard work is paying off. He was such a mouthy/bitey unaffectionate thing. And now he is the most loving, affectionate and responsive dog. It just amazes me how much he has changed already.
