| Our obedience trainer mentioned something at class this week about switching dog foods on a 'semi-regular' basis. Like after I finish a bag a food, give a different food a try. Having done some reading I can only find things about switching foods if there is a problem, or if you are feeding a poor quality food. I've also read some things that say switching foods too often will lead to problems in the digestive track. I'm just curious if anyone has any clues why she would talk about this. I mean I understand not wanting to eat the same thing every day, and switching things up with a raw diet to make sure she is getting everything she needs, but if feeding a quality 'premium' dog food, do I need to be changing flavors or other brands to make sure she's getting everything she needs? I guess I'm just looking for opinions on this one so we can come to a decision. |

I think its a personal preference. It's hard to think of trying out a new food once you've "found" the one that works with your Weims digestive system.

I know one benefit of that is some dogs get bored with the same stuff all the time, and you might have a harder time getting them to finish their meals.
I personally don't plan on rotating foods, unless I have a problem with the one he's on.
Also I don't know if it's good to switch between kibble and raw on a regular basis, if that's what you meant. I'd go raw or go kibble, but stick to whichever you choose. |

| If I fed kibble, I would rotate foods. The idea behind rotating foods is so that a dog doesn't develop allergies to whatever ingredients. Also rotating foods could help if a particular brand is missing something. IMO the more you rotate foods the better nutrition they are getting (assuming of course that the food you feed is good in the first place). |

This is exactly why I rotate foods, I chose Innova, Canidae and Solid Gold and I rotate between the 3. I buy the largest bags and when I get to the end I gradually switch (usually takes 3-4 days). So far they have done just fine with the rotation and I'm happy with the foods I've chosen. As I research and find something better I will either add it to the rotation or pull one brand out and replace it with the new. |
