Am I a bad mother? We're swtching Jaeger to his 3rd food in the 4 months we've had him
1. Bonnie (breeder's rec)- good for his growth but it gave him sloppy bulky poops (first ingredient was cereal)
almost switched him to Royal Canin until I noticed the first ingredient in the Maxi Junior was maize
2. Proplan- better, less bulky poops. But not great for his growth.. i think he can do better.
I bought a bag of Eagle Pack on the weekend (purple Large & Gaint breed puppy - wanted the green Holistic but none of the suppliers around me have it in stock). Please let this food "work" for him!! |

You're still giving puppy food? At 6 months maybe next time you switch you could try an adult food, or an "all life stages" food like Canidae.
Logan's just 10 weeks but after he finishes this bag of Science Diet Large Breed Puppy I'm goint to switch him to Canidae Lamb and Rice. It's not a puppy food, they don't make puppy food, it's designed for dogs from puppyhood to adults. His Science Diet he's on now only has one protein source, lamb, and he's doing well on it so I'm going to stick to lamb.
I'm sure you've seen the discussions on here about puppy food, so do whatever you think's best for him. Either way I hope this one treats him better than the last few! |

Canidae is my first choice but unfortunately it isnt available here.
Husband and I have discussed it and done our research and we want to keep Jaeger on puppy food until he is 10-12 months. If he does well on the Eagle Pack puppy, we'll switch him to the Eagle Pack Holistic adult varieties then. Otherwise it's back to the drawing board! |

You're not a bad mom at all!
I actually switch my dogs food every time I run out of a 30-40 lb. bag. I don't want them to be ingesting the same ingredients month after month. Long term exposure to certain foods aren't good for humans so I would think that it's not great for dogs either. What I've done is picked out 3 of my favorite dog foods and I rotate them (switching gradually over a few days of course) and I'm always researching different foods so if something that I like better comes along I'll either add it to the rotation or replace a brand with the new one. |

Jag has been on Eagle Pack since he was about 8 months old and he does great on it and he loves it.

I think its best option out of the 3 you mentioned, but a bit grain heavy in my opinion, which can be an issue for dogs that dont get enough exercise and have a tendency to gain weight. It also has fillers like pomace and beet pulp (sugar) as well as salt.
If you feed kibble, I'd also supplement with raw meat, I think a lot of people do raw in the morning and kibble at night. |
