Sean came home with some goodies for the dogs last night - Glacier got some pig ears and Kam got a beef knuckle. The dogs were literally in a trance-like state for about an hour! When dinner time came, both dogs were fed as usual and what comes next, we're not quite sure...all we know is that Glacier ended up in the same room as the knuckle and Kam stormed in and attacked her. Food was in either Kam's or Glacier's mouth and scattered all over the living room and Glacier ended up with a cut on her eye.
They have "argued" over toys before, but never to this level. There has never been any type of food aggression or anything, so this came as quite a surprise.
Any thoughts??? |

| I'm not sure if this will help... I only have one dog and she loves those beef knuckles... it is like she goes to another place when she has them. Now she will let me take it from her but I have wondered what she would be like if another dog tried to take it. I'm sure they probably fought over it because they do like them so much.. I dunno though. Im sure other people will have better ideas. Maybe beef knuckles are too much for them to share? |

| Whenever I give my four dogs anything besides their regular toys (ie: filled Kongs, real meat, pigs ears, bully sticks) I give them in their crates to avoid any of that. They are fine with toys, but food that brings out their primal instincts, nope. I, of course, can walk up to every one of them and take it away with no problem. |

Maybe in the future just be sure to give them both a beef knuckle. But then if one finishes theirs first and wants more...
I think in the crate is a good idea, then you don't have to worry. |

Logan ended up with a cut on his ear... since then, they are fed in crates. Even high value treats are done in crates. I can leave out bully sticks and other long lasting treats and they are usually fine.
Give Glacier a smooch on his boo-boo for me. Naughty these doggies aren't they!? |

Well I'm glad to hear that it's not uncommon for them to act somewhat crazy with special treats. Today went much better--Glacier snatched the knuckle and hid under our bed with it and Kam just barked and barked...and barked at her and eventually took it back. But there was no aggression this time.
I would've bought TWO knuckles and NO pig ears (they're so fatty) but this was "Daddy's" special treat---so who am I to complain!!! |
