As some of you know by now I have a 5 month old Weim puppy and in 2 weeks we are getting an 8 week old. I'm contemplating whether or not it would be a good idea to crate them together? I have 2 crates, but I was thinking they might both be happier (especially at night) being together so they can cuddle up and keep warm. I'm wondering if this might be a bad idea and if so why? Your thoughts???

The only thing that comes to my mind is that since Duke is still fairly young, He and the new puppy may form an overly dependent bond with one another...

I want a 2nd puppy SO bad, but from everything we've read, we decided to wait until Luna was 1.5-2 years old before getting the 2nd pup so that Luna has a chance to bond 100% to us before we bring her 'brother' into the picture.

I was told the same thing about getting another puppy....waiting til Duke was older, but then my husband told me that he bought me a puppy for Christmas! And what was I to do? Say no? No way....I'm so excited to get my Gracie!! Duke is so so bonded to me and I already have 2 other dogs. I can't imagine that that will change. Since Gracie is so young (8 weeks) she will spend alot of time in the crate while I continue my training with Duke. Hopefully she'll learn from watching, lol. I plan to spend time with each one of them individually as much as I can because I do know how important it is to bond with each one as an individual. Duke has just become such a good boy that I will do nothing to jeopardize that...even if I have to run around like a crazy person. I've heard also, that raising 2 pups together can be a wonderful experience! Duke has bonded to both me and my Pug beautifully. I don't see why he can't bond to another puppy as well. But I'm thinking that separate crates are the way to go, so that way they keep their separate identities. I certainly don't want to deal with a two headed Weim!

I GOT TOMMY, AND WHEN HE WAS 4 MONTHS OLD, I GOT TYRA THAT WAS ONLY 2 MONTHS OLD. YES THEY BONDED, BUT THEY BONDED MORE WITH US. TYRA IS ALL ABOUT MY HUSBAND AND TOMMY IS ALL ABOUT ME!

Well I'm hoping that since Duke is a little older and has had a lot of training already that he will start bonding more with my husband and I can focus on the puppy a little more. My husband is going to start taking Duke on walks and stuff more (supposedly). We'll see how it goes. Funny thing is my Pug thinks she's Duke's Mama! She protects him and it's the funniest thing and they are very bonded.

HAHAHA!! Supposedly...I've heard that one before too Wink Hopefully, he'll hold up his end of the deal for you...David says over and over he'll help me with our fur children as much as I need him to.....who do you think does ALL the walking, bathing, ear cleaning, nail trimming, cleaning up puppy puke and pee...and who do you suppose was up all night long comforting the babies last night...moi Razz
Kind of kidding here...I love these dogs so much that I would rather be the one taking care of them anyway...but I have told him it's a good thing we had our kids with other people, because I know I'd be alone dealing with them too....lol!
I know you're so excited about the new puppy! Duke will have a BLAST with him/her! I can't believe the difference in my girl since Colt has been here. It's like she all of a sudden grew up!
When are you picking up your new pup?

My new puppy is flying in Jan 5th. I'm so so excited! Well my husband was the one who wanted a Weimaraner puppy believe it or not! And he's just started to pay a little more attention to Duke. I think he just didn't know what to do with a puppy. As a matter of fact, just this morning there was a little doggie puke on the carpet and of course instead of cleaning it up he comes and finds me and tells me. So typical.... But he does work all day and I'm the one home so it only makes sense that I would do most of the doggie care/work. I really don't mind....if I did I certainly wouldn't be getting another one! With our Golden Retriever once he got out of the puppy stages my husband did start taking him places and spending more time with him so I'm pretty sure he will. (wish me luck)
