What are the chances of training a year old that has been loved by a family but was never aloud in the house? She is very friendly, good with kids but has never been trained. Do you think she would respond well to an indoor/outdoor life with older dogs and cats? She currently lives with a family that has a very small dog. She can be destructive but I think it is because she is bored, does anyone think this pattern has been set, or can it be corrected?

I think if you have enough time to dedicate to the training it could definitely be done. I would worry about the cats first off if he hasn't seen any before.

You can retrain any dog with the right approach. Jake was 9 when we got him and was so destructive in his previous home that he was kept outside during the day...regardless of the weather.

We have a room dedicated to the dogs. There are three crates, a dog bed and a futon in there. The three young dogs stay in their crates and Jake lounges on the futon or the dog bed all day. And doesn't bother a thing. The door is kept closed and we leave the tv on for them.

If you have lots of time and patience it can be a great for u and the dog.
We recently adopted a 3 yr old boy with very little training or manors. We have been working with him for about 2 months now and he has come a very long way.I went online and read and read and read about this and we had to start from the very beginning with him,and it is working GREAT!
This forum is a huge advantage with lots of helpful information links on training as well as great advice from people. If you have a great trainer in your neighbourhood,it could turn out to be a great thing.Good luck.

If you have other dogs are you able to get them together with her on neutral territory? I think it can definitely be done. It may take some work and time but I bet it will be worth it if you are up to it.

It can absolutely be done! Just be aware that it's going to take more time to train her than a pup with a clean slate.
