This thanksgiving was my first one with Lucy and my husband and I were to go home to WA state (from So CA) to visit family. Well... I made him drive so we could bring my dog Smile He was really mad at me at first, but it was really fun to take her on a road trip. I haven't had to leave her yet, but it would break my heart, and possibly ruin my whole trip if I had to!!! I don't blame you one bit!

What? You mean you guys take vacations without your dogs????
I take my dogs everywhere I can but when I can't, they get boarded. I start them early.... In fact just made my puppy person send his 7 month old for boarding for "practice" and also encourage all of them to leave their dogs for a short trip or something by about 6 months. Most have done so and all do fine. But I guess they are used to it, when they were still with me, I had them stay with someone else at least one night before they went to their permanent homes. (Gotta love doggy friends!)

We always take Marley. She was camping with us at 7 weeks. Most of what we like to do (camping, hiking and fishing) can involve her and that is part of the reason we got a Weim. Little fluff balls aren't our style.

We are going to drive her to Florida with us around March (my aunt loves dogs and she really wants us to bring her).
The only problem we have found is that we are getting married this year and the honeymoon is going to be in Italy. I love my dog and all, but I can't pass up Italy. I'm sure my brother would watch her, but there is no way to explain to him what he is in for. I just can't put her in a kennel Crying or Very sad

Luke and i went on our interview with Kim last night. We were getting out of the car and he was going crazy. Which he never does he's calm for a weim usually. He was acting like we just pulled up at the dog park. I was thinking she's going to look out her window see a 70 pound weim jumping around like a nut and say forget it. Shocked Kim was great she had us come in took us on a tour. The dogs have the run of the den, garage, and huge backyard. Luke acted so great, total gentleman! Very Happy Complete 360 of how he acted when we got out of the car. In fact Kim says she hopes Luke's manner rub off on her lab Thelma. Luke really took to Thelma while we were there, which shocked the h*** out of me. He's kind of a loner. The interview really put my mind at ease. Even though i know he will constantly be on my mind, i know he will be safe. While i was there Kim was telling me that her best friend has weims, She said she's going to freak when i tell her I'm keeping one. Who would have thought weim addicts are everywhere. Razz

I'm so glad i'm not the only one who feels this way.
We go camping on boxing day for a week and we have to leave cooper with BF's mother, I'm pretty worried about leaving him (not only will i miss him so much, i just hope he doesn't destroy the house or eat the poodle). And where we are going we get very limited phone service so contact will be very llittle.

He had a sleep over there as a trial the other night and I missed him so much it was unbelievable - it was like the house lost all of it's life when he was gone. But he went ok and he seems to get on with Dexter( poodle) so hopefully he won't miss us too much. And i will just have to suck it up and stop being a big sissy!

I have asked for a book with all places in Australia where you can take dogs on holidays with you, so hopefully holidays from now on will include cooper.

We have boarded Reagan a few times now with NO problems. I think it helps that she goes to doggie daycare. In fact we left her with friends when we went on vacation in the summer (an effort to save money on boarding fees) and let's just say that won't be happening again (at least not with the hubby's friends). She didn't get fed on time, she was alone alot and she (understandibly so) ripped up our mini blinds b/c she was alone for so long. Now MY friends are reliable but it is an undertaking for most of our friends b/c they all live in apartment complexes...which is much different than a home.

I have taken Reagan to Petsmart's Pet Hotel and actually prefer it over our regular daycare for boarding. There is someone 24 hours a day and they give "pawgress" reports. I know it isn't for everyone but Reagan actually eats all her food and enjoys herself.

I agree it is important to start them early if you plan on boarding them at all...
