| Has anyone used a head collar with their weims? I cant stand choke collars and doesnt seem effective for Butler if he feels like pulling. Mom got Bonnie and Butler both a nice head collar ad it seems to really work, even though people look at him like hes vicious when he wears it. Just wondering if anyone had had success with them? |

| Sterling used to run and hide when I pulled out the gentle leader. It also started to rub her nose after awhile. Choke collars don't work either....good ol' pinch collar for us all the way! |

| Everybody I know that has one prefers prong collars the best. Head halters can hurt the dog's neck. I'd look into a prong collar personally, they seem to be the most effective for a pulling pup and don't hurt the dog. They LOOK pretty menacing though, so don't judge it at first glance. I've tried the pinch on my skin and it's not as bad as it looks haha. |

we use the gentle leader with marvin and i am happy with it. most days we use his flat nylon collar and work on heeling but if we are going somewhere exciting (vet's office, university campus, mall) we use the gentle leader. i have used the gentle leader, easyway collar or halti on a few of our dogs (gsp, springer spaniel, lab, german sheppy) and found that some of the the different brands fit the different breeds better so you may want to bring the dog along to try them out. they all use a slightly different method.
i know that many people think that the dogs look sad with them on but i believe that you just have to condition the dog as with any new item. our dogs don't look sad and come running when they see them 'cause they know it means a walk somewhere busy. we started out by having it on for short periods around the house with no leash and tucking the ring up so not to bother them and extended it to an hour at a time. then we did short walks with positive reinforcement rather than pulling.
i don't worry about neck injury as i am careful with the product and we have to remember that any tool can do harm if used incorrectly. |

EXACTLY! Any tool can be wonderful or horrible depending on the OWNER more than the dog. |

I also use the gental leader. I love it. Orvis runs away too when I pull it out. I have started putting it on before meal times and leting him eat with it on, and that seems to help a bit. I have never heard about them being dangerous. The instructions state that kepping presure on the dog is not the way to use it. I do give quck soft tugs when hes on it and we are working on training, like leave it and sit.
I have used prong collars with springer spaniels in the past but I dont remember how they worked, It was along time ago and i was only a pre or early teen. |

| I too, have just started using the Gentle Leader. It works great! Duke hates it, but I just leave it on him around the house and he seems to be adjusting to it a little. You must watch the video that comes with it and make sure you are using it right. As another poster stated, you can't keep constant pressure on it and just give a little jerk when they try to pull away. |

When we take the prong collar out, Sophie lets us put it on her because she knows she's going for a walk! |
