I hate to say it, but I THINK buying the Weim was a Mistake

I truly feel like I just want to put my head in my hands and cry. This dog is the best thing in the world one minute and a Hellion the other 59 minutes of the hour. Right now, I feel like calling the breeder and asking her to take him back but I know I would regret it tomorrow.

The training went so well at first but now I feel like everything he did was only for treats and without treats he is a mad man.

My last resort is to send him to obedience school which I really can't afford with the new house payment but it is my only hope at this point.

As I type this, he is laying on my bed with his head on my thigh sleeping. He is beautiful and so loving but in a minute when he wakes hell is gonna break loose.

At least typing this made my wanting to cry pass, so I think I will make a Vodka tonic instead.

Don't worry, you are not alone. When Bella was a puppy, we came very close to getting rid of her on multiple occasions. But, it's all those good moments that make it all worth while. In the end, we did not get rid of Bella and now we have 2 more.

Just today, all three came running into the house (it's been raining here) and tracked mud all over 2 rooms in my house. To make matters worse, we are trying to sell our house and I had to shampoo carpets in about 30 minutes for a showing...

So, with alot of patience, you can get through it and it will be well worth it in the end.

The puppy phase is really hard. But they do grow out of it. I think obedience school is a good idea. Can you take an obedience class together? Probably not as expensive and the trainers will teach you a lot about dealing with your pup.

Mine is a Waltz v Anson cross with Arokat/Ashcrof in his lineage!

Logan is 5.5 months old... and a challenge. It's soooo hard some days. But, taking him to an organized training facility will make all the difference. I swear it. It gets their minds occupied and busy, it gives you something to practice which helps to wear them out. ... and your dog is well behaved. Logan has two classes a week, which is a lot for us (I have my JRT mix in a class, too) time wise, but it makes living with them a LOT easier.

Hang in there. But, you have a great breeder if you really can't take it. They will make sure he gets a good home.

But try to hang in there -- this is a rough period and it will get better.

Oh please do try to tough it out. He probably LOVES you like nobody's business and just needs you to be oh so patient with him right now. Hang in there...things will improve.....maybe try some long walks together or something, I dunno, but give yourselves the chance to work this out. Very Happy

Trust me it will get better...I have a 60 plus male weim who is 6 months. You pup need to to be tired out- find a dog that he can play with and play, and play....it will make a world of differnce. That is why we are getting second one so he has a buddy- they get bored fast like a 2 yr old child in there Terrible 2's....Wish i could help more...

You can do it! He really does probably need more exercise. I know that when Kinley is crazy if we work with training her and go for a walk she calms down. Instead of the class that you said is too expensive maybe you could go online and order some helpful books! Do you have any neighbors or friends that have playful dogs that you could make a play date. Also taking him to new and different places like pet stores, Home Depot, some electronic stores, and different parks....

I hope things get better! I love Kinley (and she is eceptionally great and calm for a weim) but I don't know if I could ever get another puppy!

These are things I hear all the time from wiem owners, Especially FIRST time wiem owners. And probably is the reason why people interested in the breed should invest some real time in research before they get one.

Trust me now, I said it so many times with my first wiem Misty. OMG that dog was a handful. Bull headed, crazy, insubordinate, ect. But now that she's gone, I would give anything for just one more day with her. For all the annoying things these dogs are, there are twice as many good things about them. You'll never find a more forgiving, loving, amusing, loyal dog breed around.

Stick it out, Its going to be a long crazy joyful ride. Sit back and enjoy it instead of fighting it.

I think the difference between your situation and mine is that I knew Riley would be nuts when we got her, so while she is INSANE... she is our third weim puppy, so it comes as no suprise.
I think that while I mostly post about the good things on here, not the times I want to strangle her, know that she often has me at the end of my rope.
Stick with it... the crazy will calm down into just plain nuts. The sweet will still be there.

from a first time weim owner too i know what your going threw we've had it all counter surfing, biting, dominance issues, stealing food and tissues and anything he could get his mouth onto! and poop eating Gurn

he's six month old tomorrow and he's mellowed a bit I'm keeping my fingers crosses his good behaviour for the past week keeps up. if it doesn't then I'll just keep laying down the law until the day he gives in! (i hope)
we to have been at the point of calling the breeder to give him back but hang on it there he will mellow slowly.
remember to cherish the good days then the bad ones wont seem so bad

Yeah lets see.....Adventures with Misty....

She ate the furniture one day...ALL of it.

She almost drown us both on an early spring trout stream chasing ducks she would never have caught, Then slept in a little curled up ball all the way home.

Ate nasty three week old dead deer in the woods behind the house......Then pooped great piles of awesomely smelling recycled deer meat thru out the house....IN JANUARY! Let me tell ya...dead deer doesn't smell any better after you run it thru a wiemaraner.

She would roll in poop and then sneak back into the house every time I would bring a girl home......yeah nice.

Grabbed one of the neighbors ankle biter dogs and gave it a death shake.....Had a great time with cops over that one.

Tore up over two thousand dollars worth of fly tying saddles(feathers). Just because I left precious at home over night.

But ya know what? I loved that dog like nothing else and wouldn't have traded it all for anything in the world....Hang in there, It'll all be worth it in the end.

Oh and BTW...I now own two of these hellions...one of which has bitten everyone and thing in the damn house tonight because she has a doggy cold!...Grrrrr.....
