I am debating bringing Kaiser's crate into my bedroom to stop all the whining. Is this a bad idea? In my old place, a one room loft, he was basically next to my bed, now I am in a 3 level town home so I placed his crate in the room across the hall. He whines and whimpers when I am out of sight.

I think all puppies that first go to a new home should be in a crate in your bedroom at night. When they are older you can move the crate out or put the dog on your bed. That is what I advise all my puppy people to do.

It stays in the living room. I put it in my bedroom once and he whined all night anyway. he is in the crate when ever I leave the house unless he breaks out of it Wink

our breeder suggested that we only crate in our room for the first night or so and they move it close to the door for ease with house training so that's what we did. BUT five months in we moved him back to our room because he would whine around 4-5 am and not because he had to pee instead he wanted to cuddle. now he sleeps in his crate the whole night through and even lets us sleep in. sometimes i hear him wake early but he seems to look around and settle back down quickly.

They have their own room now....as pups, the crates were in the living room. We didn't crate them at night.

After just one night of Marley whining in the living room, she was moved into the bed room. She does very well in there. When she has to be in there during the day we can close the door so she doesn't freak out about the cat or something, and she rarely whines at night. Every once in a while I will get up to go to the bathroom and she will sit up and whine very quietly so I take her out. After that she is right back to bed. It has worked out very well for us.

We have Sophie just oustide our bedroom in the family room. She's always with us when we hang out then and she gets out to play and snuggle. I have it right by the stairs so that first thing when I get her out I can direct here that way for going outside.

Should I not sleep with my guy when I get him on Sunday? I plan on letting him sleep on the bed in the future, is there a specific reason I should wait or will he be ok with me on night one?

I let my little guy sleep with me for the first couple weeks but it got really hard to house break him. At first he couldn't jump off the bed so he woke me when he had to go. As he got bigger he could get off and I was so tired from not getting a full nights sleep that he didn't wake me so he went in the kitchen.

Then I put him in the crate at night and he cried for hours. ;-( Now he goes in the crate and the only reason I don't let him sleep with me is because he destroys the house if I am not watching every single minute.
