Hello all. My family just bought a weim a few days ago. He is four months old and named Titan. He is very timid and will hide behind my legs if we have company
We also have three children in the house. The older two children and my husband and I each take turns taking the dog outside to potty. I feed him twice a day, when I am preparing my family's breakfast and supper.
Over the past two days, Titan has become attached to me, literally. If I sit down, he sits down, if I walk around, he is directly behind/beside me. He will not go outside to potty with anyone but me anymore. The children are upset that the dog won't play with them and I really want to share some of the responsibility. Is this a natural action? Will he outgrow this severe attachment or at least spread the love when he gets more used to us? |

They do tend to bond to one person. Have someone else feed him for starters. And don't stop having the others take him out. He will learn. Have the kids and hubby give him his new toys and treats.
Good luck and congrats on your boy!! They are awesome dogs. |

Yeah, all of what she said. Just try to have him associate some rewards and positive feelings with everybody else, it'll get better as he settles in too.
I think it's hilarious he has a big, strong name like Titan and he hides behind your legs haha. It'll get better as his confidence grows.
Post pictures when you have time! |

I resisted getting our Cooper for 2 years, because I knew when a family gets a dog, mama gets a dog! Seriously, this was a bit of a problem for us as well. I think the psychologists call it "enabling" others.
You are doing the right thing to let the others take some responsibility. Try not to be as quick to react to your dog (aww!),& let others react first ("enabling" them to care for the dog). It is also part of our jobs as moms to make our (furry)kids independent & able to bond to others by letting others interact with them. It'll be hard, you are a mom, with lightening-speed mom-response instincts! Titan has instincts of his own & knows you are the best person to cling on!
(With apologies to all you wonderful men out there...)
as I know I'll go sit on the couch and both dogs will have to touch me - that's how successful I was at taking that advice!!! |
