|
|
I ran into a friend of mine today. apparently a Weimeraner got lost, found my friends home. My friend already has several dogs, does not want another, is looking for a good home for this little fellow.
I'm heading over tomorrow to see what I think. If we get along, great, maybe I'll invite him to stay. If we don't, the dog needs a good home.
Of particular concern to me is that I have 6 laying hens and a rooster. The birds are behind a 5' wire fence. I have never had a Weim before, but I understand they can be aggressive with small animals. I have no idea what to expect with the birds, your input would be greatly appreciated.
Back in college, my fraternity had a dog, half Weimeraner, half doberman. Fantastic dog he was, friendly, smart, handsome, barked only when it was time to bark, went to more classes than most of the guys, chased squirrels in his sleep, but did not chew anything.
If I take the dog, I'm going to need a pile of information in a short time. Suggestions? I'm in a small town without a bookstore, so I'll use the web.
and whats this drooling thing I hear about? He's not going to be like my last girlfriend I hope. Glad thats over with.
Anyone in north Florida looking for a Weimeraner?
I'll have more information tomorrow.
Thanks in advance for the help.

ive heard the same about weims being aggressive towards small animals, but mine isnt at all. he loves cats and small critters. he'll chase rabbits and things, but its not aggressive he just wants to play.
good luck, let us know how it goes |

i dont think its aggresive towards small animals... i think its the prey drive they have - they hunt, its what they do.
they may be fine with small animals 99% of the time... but that 1% can be a concern. |

Welcome to the boards. If you're looking for info about the breed, you're here. I've been on this site about a month and have ready probably close to every thread made in the past year. Every time I think I've learned evreything I could possibly know about the breed, bam there's something else.
You can also check out the Weimaraner Club of America site (google it).
They don't drool any more than other large dogs, maybe some individuals but in general they aren't big droolers (unless you're holding a steak in front of them or something).
Type in Weimaraner in google images and you'll find plenty of color photos. Or check out people's galleries when they post here on this site.
Don't go there tomorrow unless you have the facilities to own a dog. Because you will fall in love with it.
And sorry to hear about your drooling ex, at least you can put a bib on her at dinnertime, with a dog you just gotta carry around Clorox wipes. |

I did not take the dog.
I don't have the space in town for a weimer to run around. In this neighborhood, I'd have to chain him up. That is not how I wish to treat a dog.
I'm looking for land to start an organic farm. I'll wait until then before I look for the right dog.
He sure was a good looking dog, friendly as hell.
If anyone out there is looking for a weimer in the Lake City, north Florida area, give me a call: 386.288.3859
