mean dog whisperer!

I ve seen this show on tv called the dog whisperer and several others where this guy comes into the home and "retrains the dog to be "a good dog" and part of that is that they are never allowed on the bed or couch, that is no place for a dog, no treats, and no basket of dog toys ever... Im sorry but I let my Maddie on my bed on my couch and she definately has a basket of safe dog toys in the living room to choose from,,is this wrong ?! I get his point but I dont agree when he says its BAD for the dog to be spoiled like this, this dude was shoving this couples dog of their bed.lol

Oh he's not that bad, you have to watch more of his shows. He wants to get the owner back to the point of getting the dog trained, and then he says I'd don't care if you treat him like a person, what not.

You are right! I didnt mean the dog whisperer in Cali I meant the guy in Canada the show is called At the end of my leash. I dont agree with banning my dog from couch and bed and not having any toys.

They should have toys, but my Daisy was recently banned from my bed. My husband breaks out in hives when she rubs up against him (never happened with Goliath and doesn't happen with the rest of us), but she cuddles right up to him in the middle of the night. Last night I woke up to her jumping up, him getting her down, her jumping up, him getting her down, went on for 2hrs (she's as stubborn as he is). I'm just thankful he's not asking me to get rid of her.... Then I might be getting rid of him... Laughing

I've never seen either of those shows.

I don't think spoiling is bad, but spoiling on the dogs terms is definitely not good. There are some dogs that definitely need attitude adjustments and should not have priviledges, at least for a time...

I think Cesar Milan "The Dog Whisperer" is great. My husband even like to watch him. Cesar is really amazing with some of the dogs that he rehabilitates. He almost becomes "dog". Neat man to watch.

i have only seen a few shows but i agree that he is sometimes extreme in his methods. from my understanding he doesn't feel dogs should never have toys, treats or be on furniture but that they should understand that these are privileges (as anne mention). in many of the families he works with the dogs are ruling the house. i've never seen cesar's show - i probably have to order another channel for that one but i used to watch stanley coren when nothing else was on early sunday mornings.

things i agree with from 'the end of leash' guy's show...
*it is the owner's responsibility to teach their dog to be the best canine citizen they can be.
*pets are a billion dollar industry when all they really require is food, shelter, companionship, guidance and love. you'll never find me buying my dog a silk kimono but you can if you wish.
*obesity is a problem in north american people and pets. i like his 6 legged (4 dog + 2 people legs) approach to working out.

Sometimes when my four year old talks back we take toys away. But we do let her sit on the couch Smile

I'm reading one of Ceasar's books right now and applying some of techniques in my home with all three of my dogs...in two days, I've noticed a HUGE difference Smile

Where can you find his books? I watch his show I love it.....the best part is how well his dogs behave and how hes showing everyone pit bulls are not that bad.....but wouldnt it be cool to see a Weim on there....

I have only seen one episode of At the End of My Leash. I lost interest because it wasnt an issue we were dealing with.

Cesar has a website, but you can find his books WAY discounted on E-Bay. I found some of Ian Dumbar's books there too Smile
