Fur Kids: Used to have Sophie - Weimaraner

Ew, man, the peeing in her crate is awful. She lays in it, she smells, my house smells and I just don't know what to do. We left in her in the backyard for just a couple of hours and she managed to get out of the dog run on the side and shred the screen door.

I have thought of leaving her outside during the day and getting a bed for her, but I'm worried she would hurt herself.

She's not alone very long.

Just more whining. I took her for a walk this afternoon, but not even enough to wear her out. I would play fetch with her for days if I could keep her interested.

She's jumping a lot too. I'm hoping the Petsmart training will help some, I'm a bit frustrated. I'm sure being tired 24/7 doesn't help.

I want to snuggle with her but damn, the pee smell is bad and I have to give her treats to get her to let me wash her off. I think I'm going to get her groomed this weekend (Yay, have the money) and get her nails clipped, etc. It will be nice to not have a urine smelling puppy for a few hours.

we put ours in the bathtub. we have tea tree and oatmeal dog shampoo from petco - works well. they hate it some days, but get over it.
kinda have to force the issue at times, but they pretty well get to understand it eventually.
a dog with nothing to do will inevitably get in trouble... its like a kid with nothing to do... they will just find something to keep them busy. a screen sounds like a fun thing to play with.
i wont leave mine outside when i am not home... too tempting for someone to take.
the peeing in the crate... is there another thread on this??? so many puppies and so much pee... i get confused at times. Geek

There have been many threads of peeing the in crate.

Sophie was only home alone for four hours today! So it's not as if we left her long. I got up early and went to work at six and got home at 2 and my husband left at 10 am. Frustrating.

I was more whining than anything else about the pee dog that insists on rubbing on me, etc.

Have you tried pet wipes? They're like baby wipes but pet safe... I found some pretty cheap at Target.

Nobody likes a stinky pupper!

Oh yes, I have to give her treats in order for her not to try to chew my hand off while cleaning her.

Shocked Oh no naughty girl!

Even when she gets sleepy?

We got an extra long hose for our hand held shower so we can just toss her in the tub and literally hose her down... it is SO much faster than messing around with a bowl trying to rinse her off!

I should do that, she really is naughty and really testing me, she wouldn't get in her crate when I told her to and she's been doing great with that for weeks.

The general rule is if they are 4 months old, they can hold it for 4 hours so sometimes there are going to be accidents. At that age Marley had a UTI and every time she would be outside she would squat like ten times so we had a lot of dirty blankets. I just gave her a new one and cleaned the cage when she peed. I think it helped her learn that she didn't like having a dirty blanket, and now she whines when it is dirty even when I don't notice.

Nothing is worse than that pee smell, especially if the crate is in the bedroom. You are doing everything right, she's just getting a mind of her own. I suggest Excedrin migraine and a smile.

Oh, boy, did we go round and round with this with Sterling at the same age!! I followed a suggestion on here (I think it might have been Anne's or Josie's, not sure) but we had to go ALL the way back to basics. We moved her crate into the kitchen. When we would leave, we would block off the kitchen (four-foot walk through gate) and leave her crate open and put her kong, etc. in there and let her come in and out as she pleased while we were gone. This worked! She NEVER had another accident in the crate. We had a few on the floor in front of the gate, but not many. Suddenly, she just stopped, and we started leaving her in the crate for 10 minutes at a time and then taking her right back out. Now, she will stay in her crate without any accidents for up to nine hours Very Happy Now, we did have a couple of chewing incidents on the wall by the gate, but the bf fixed those with plaster, and I started spraying bitter apple along the baseboards and on the bottom of the cabinets, which stopped the behaviour.
I swear, I thought she'd never, ever learn. I figure she'd just been taught to be a dirty puppy, since the whelping box the breeder had was in her heated/ac garage, and she probably started peeing there...I DO remember the smell...UGGGGG!! We, too, got one of the hose extentions for the shower and would just washer her off or bathe her almost every day...sometimes twice!
Back to basics is the key Wink

Yes, this should be done, we can, we just have to do some moving stuff around in the kitchen and let her out during the day. I plan on buying another crate so she can sleep in it up stairs, she doesn't do well when left down stairs at night.

Thanks for the advice. She really is pushing us, but I'm feeling more confident and she listens to me best, which drives my husband crazy, but it's because he gives in too easily. He said he couldn't get her out of her crate this morning, I got her out easily. I just look at her the right way and she will sit down, that's funny.

I will get a gate for the kitchen, it will give her more room to move about as well. I think part of it is lazy, I had to practically drag her out to go potty before I went to bed, but she went once we got outside. I do love the sleepy puppy though, I get licks and she lets me pet her a lot more.

oh, yeah. don't forget to weimproof the kitchen. Sterling let us know the first day that the placemats on the table were really cool chew toys..other than that, just make sure you take EVERYTHING off the counters...no exposed cords either...Sterling never countersurfed until we started leaving her in the kitchen out of the crate, and I did the worse thing...let her sleep in bed with us for a couple of nights...six months later....we've upgraded to a king-size bed Laughing I should have just bought another crate..Also, Sterling listens to me better too. My bf isn't clear enough with his signals..I'm clearly the alpha in this house...both with the dogs and with the boy Razz
