Roxy was stung on the foot late this afternoon by a blue bottle. She settled down after about 1/2 hour of me holding her foot under running water at the beach but I'd like to find out in case it happens again what medicine type antihistimine is safe?
I heard people saying they use Benadryl but the Benadryl we have here is for coughs mainly and its in liquid form. I've copied the ingredients below?
Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride 12.5mg * Ammonium Chloride 125mg * Sodium Citrate 50mg *
Is this the same as yours?
They love swimming at the beach but its so hard sometimes to see the little buggers in the water. |

we have both liquid children's benadryl and adult caplets but they are both composed of diphenhydramine hydrochloride only. children's is usually horribly flavoured and my dog's hate it. the adult version is 25 mg so i split the pills based on dosage.
in canada you can also get it from the vet or the pharmacist but it's usually a lot more expensive from them than off the shelf. |

I've just gone through the antihistimes that I have in tablet form and I've found some that have
Promethazine Hrdrochloride 10mg
She is fine though and doesn't need anything tonight before bed. |

some dosing info on benedryl - we give the adult tables - 25mg a piece - go down well with Peanut Butter.
Traditionally, our vet has us do 1 mg per pound, depending on how bad the itch, we decide if we go heavy or light - for a 65lb dog, 2 or 3 pills.
when zoe had her allergies kick up this fall we had her on 3 pills at a time, 3 times a day per the vet's orders. she was losing hair and her feet were red and raw. she was on 4 meds at the time for the itching and the yeast that was growing on them. our vet said one weim with similiar allergies was on 4 pills at a time, 4 times a day - so you can go a bit over and probably be ok, but i would check with a vet first.
the 1 to 1 is what 2 vets have set us up with as a traditional dose. |

yeah, a bad month to say the least. thanks for the thoughts and prayers, we certainly feel the support everyone has been providing us.
zoe is just fine now. although i think she is still a bit angry about the foot spray. she HATES foot sprays. she locks her legs and i literally have to drag or carry her to get her to move. too funny. |
