Help. Vale 'screamed' earlier today when playing in the yard. He came running towards me and was really shaking.
I have checked his paws, skin, ears etc and can't find anything stuck in him, and when he does walk he is ok, no limps etc. He then came into the house, tail between his legs and started to shake, probably for about 20 minutes and woundn't lie down.
That was nearly 5 hours ago, since then every now and again he lets out a yelp as though he is in pain and has slept for most of the 5 hours other than to eat and wee. His ears are back and his tail keeps going between his legs. Can't get him interested in playing etc.
He is 8.5 weeks old, had his first jab.
Am I being paranoid?
Changes today are that we have had a lot of people round to see him and wonder whether he is all stressed out and a little bit nervous/scared.
Help, nervous puppy parents here.
Update to this, he has now stopped eating and drinking, just lying in his crate looking sad and/or sleeping. |

Is it possible he got stung by an insect?? That will spook them. Mine are all grown up and petrified of things that buzz. And the behavior is exactly what you described.
Check him thoroughly for any swelling....it could be in his mouth
I just caught your last sentence....check him for a fever..just in case.
You have to keep him hydrated. Watch his gums, make sure they are nice and pink. See if you can get him to drink some chicken or beef broth..or pedialyte, something similar. If he won't eat his regular food, try some baby food.
A puppy will dehydrate very quickly......if you are concerned, get him to the vet.
Please keep us posted. |

Thanks for the reply and the concern, much appreciated.
What a change in him. He was like that for the whole day, like a scared child, then yesterday, back to himself.
I think that a few things happened (in my non expert opinion!!!), he was probably stung/got hurt by something coupled with too much excitement from all the visitors at once, think it was overload for him
He does however suddenly start crying for no reason, we are assuming it is to get his own way, no pattern to it. He is eating, drinking, going to the toilet etc all OK now. How strange! Puppies for you! Have felt him all over, prodded him etc, no pains and he is wagging his tail when he cries/whimpers, is this normal to try to get his own way?
Feel much happier now, if we don't have a repeat will wait till we see the Vets on the 31st for his 2ND jabs.
He is looking at me all cute like now in the living room on a piece of his moms vet bed which he loves |

I am do glad he is back to normal...well, for a Weim anyway.
Marley got stung last week while we were camping. We were right next to her, and she yelped and started sniffing around the ground and trying to look at her behind. We couldn't see anything (wanted to make sure there wasn't a stinger still in there), but she was paranoid for a while after that.
It's probably really scary to a little guy like that. I am always super-concerned about my girl, and she's 7 months already. The little ones seem so helpless sometimes. |
