I finally found a breeder I feel I can trust and who's got a litter planned for the time I'd like to add a little shorthaired Weim boy to my family.

The sire is shorthaired but a LHC, the dam is LH. As far as I know this should produce both LH and SH (not sure about LHC). So how does it work with the gender? Can you somehow 'predict' that there's a bigger chance for a SH dog than a LH bitch? Or is it just at random? I did genetics in school, but that's so long ago now...

Obviously I'm not a very patient person, they haven't even been mated yet but I just don't want to get my hopes up and then there's no SH boy...

Anybody any ideas?

It's not random, LH is a recessive factor. Breeding a SH who is a LHC to a LH should STATISTICALLY produce 50% SH's (all LHC) and 50% LH's. Of course litters will not always bear out the statistics because the sample size is so small.

Oh and the coat type and gender have nothing to do with each other.

Thanks for that, Anne. I was hoping that there might be a higher chance to get a shorthaired male than a female or so. Well, they haven't even been mated yet. I have to be a bit more patient. Rolling Eyes But I'm just soo looking forward to have a little Weim boy!
