I found this on another website - I've been wondering what I could say about my baby that passed away two years ago at age fourteen - - So Lucy, this is for you too...
In Memory of My Iceman
Tonight I put your bowl away, I sit here and I cry
The hardest thing I’ve had to do was just to say good bye
For fourteen years my partner, never out of site
I let you go this morning, you left me for the light
I didn’t see your loving eyes tonight when I came home
It cut me to the quick it seems, I feel so all alone
No longer will I see you laying in the morning sun
The things that have you taught me, the hearts that you have won
I know it won’t be easy, and I never will forget
You’re in my heart as strong today as was the day we met
That small puppy with the cowlick face, and white upon his chest
Of all the pups I could have had, I knew you were the best
The time went by, our lives entwined, always at my side
You stood by me through everything the years they seemed to fly
How could I not have known that you would go so fast
Nothing that you ever tried would you ever come in last
How I long to hold you close again, and yearn to scratch your head
I reached out for you once more last night, into your empty bed
I’ll hold you in my heart of hearts, and know I have to wait
To look into your eyes again as I cross over through the Gate
Til then I have your memories, and your stories I’ll hold dear
Please don’t think me weak old friend as I stop and shed a tear
Nothing else will ever fill the space you left behind
I still see you so clearly......if only in my mind

| Gail is the director of Heartland weim rescue here in KC (we got our Shotz through her). She is a really amazing woman. This poem made me sob when I read it. |

Thank you although I did not get 14 wonderful years from my 2 year old Schnauzer...I still feel the same.
Bye bye my Pretty little Pepper...I miss you so much. I wasn't home when you left forever and I did not get to say good bye, but I think you would be happy to know I have another friend not to replace you, but to keep Nana going on....you know how lonely I get sometimes when everyone is away at work all day. So Pepper my other friend is Bella she is a weimaraner. Quite large compared to you...but just as frisky and makes Nana's day more Sunny.
I'll never forget you my sweet little girl. Hugs and Licks

| That poem was written by a woman with Heartland Weim Rescue to her beloved Iceman. I cry my heart out everytime I read it. |

You know, I have yet to read that thing in its entirety. I just can't.
I'm sure it's a lovely poem and maybe someday I'll be able to finish reading it. |

wow, I am in a classroom full of kids and I hope they do not notice me crying!
That poem says it all, reading it makes me realize that I will have to go through that one day. It breaks my heart. |

Wow, I stumbled upon this page and this poem was the first post I read upon registering with the site. We lost our beloved 8 year old weim, Reny nearly a year ago abruptly to bloat. I nearly fell off my chair when I saw that Gail had written and posted this poem - very small world as we adopted our sweet 4 year old weim, Daisy from her and the Heartland Weim Rescue exactly 4 years ago!
Thanks so much Gail, this poem really hits home for me!
