Have any of you seen the Illusion Collar that Cesar Millan uses on his show? What are your thoughts on it. I have considered investing in one and wanted to know if anyone has any thoughts on it good or bad.

| I think Cesar is a hack, but I'm not familiar with the collar, so I'm no help there. |

Ditto...do you know all he is schooled for is to be a dog GROOMER??!
and I've seen the dang collar in person... just like any of his products, overpriced and not worth the money.

Blargh! Anyone advocating uber aggressive tactics like the ones he employs is just begging for bites and ruined dogs. |

All it does it just place the collar higher on the neck where it's more sensitive for the dog - it looks like a double collar, but that's just to keep the useful one in place.
He doesn't even use it himself, unless he's giving it to a family that wants something that works and doesn't take a lot of readjusting.
It's nothing new, all he uses himself is a bit of rope and places it just behind the jaw, where show dog collars and leashes go. The placement works. The collar (yes, overpriced) just puts it in position for you with no work on your part. |

| Thanks for the feedback. Doesn't seem worth it at all to me. |

We broke down and thought we'd try the Illusion Collar before getting a pinch collar. First hint should have been when it said "...start with a calm submissive dog..." Needless to say it didn't work! Guess we'll be trying the pinch collar before I end up flat out in the road |

Have you tried a GOOD harness?
My husband is a trainer @ PetCo and aside from a head collar like Gentle Leader or Halti, the only other walking implement he allows is the Easy-Walk harness by Premier. No chokers, prongs or other harnesses that clip on the back and actually PROMOTE pulling. The Easy-walk clips to the leash in the FRONT and works to redirect forward motion and prevents pulling. it's got 2 other adjustable straps. Seriously, TRY ONE. |

Don't be afraid of the pinch collar. It is such a misconception that it is hurting the dog. Put one on your arm and try it on yourself. You will see that it really does not hurt.
Anyone who does serious obedience for competition, titles, field work, etc uses either a chain choke collar or a pinch/prong collar. I recommend a Herm Sprenger brand collar. Get a size small and add links for a Weim.
The halti/Gentle Leader is not good for a dog. Studies done at UC Davis have shown a higher incidence of disc problems in dogs who have had one used on them. |

| I LOVE the easy-walk harness. I have used it on 2 young, excited dogs and I no longer have them choking on a regular or choke style collar or pulling me along. My trainer also recommended it. I had been using the Gentle Leader too and she thought this would be better since the Easy Walk harness doesn't pull their head around like the Gentle Leader, it only redirects them to you and they are not able to pull forward like in a regular harness. |

[b Think one of the biggest problems is that when we adopted Tommy he was 2 1/2yrs & the only time he was on a leash was to go to the vets. His old house had a bigger yard so they didn't go for walks. We adopted him from a family that had his mom & dad but dad was getting more and more aggresive with him as he got older.
We've tried numerous leads, harnesses, collars with no luck. Think the funnest is the haltie...It's like walking a flopping fish!
I was worried about the pinch collar BUT a friend of mine has a Weim and she's never had any problems.
Mommy just wants to walk, even at a "good clip" instead of being dragged & yanked [/b] |
